The Diketone Debate: Which Position Do you Take?

The DIketone Debate: Which Position Do You Take?

  • It should not be in any liquid, no matter what!

  • It should be madatorily disclosed to provide the customer with clear options.

  • I know what the supposed issues are, but I don't care.

  • I have little to no idea what the issues are, nor do I care.

  • I have little to no idea what the issues are, but I would like to know.

I voted #2 - but believe it #1.
But it's not my place to force #1 on others if they prefer.

A number of upper-tier flavor vendors are making Diketone info available and switching many of their formulations.

IMO - ALL juice vendors should be required to list Diketones details on their individual juice blends.
% makeup/lab tests would be the gold standard. 'contains D/A/AP' as provided by flavor vendor (ex:TFA,FA) would be an excellent start.
With the Diketone-free flavorings now being offered, a juice vendor should strive to provide all their juices Diketone free.

Contact your favorite vendor and request they provide this info.

From: Nicotine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Addiction:
Nicotine is addictive. Nicotine activates the mesolimbic pathway and induces long-term ΔFosB expression in the nucleus accumbens when inhaled or injected, but not necessarily when ingested. Consequently, repeated daily exposure (possibly excluding oral route) to nicotine can result in accumbal ΔFosB overexpression, in turn causing nicotine addiction.

Addiction:
Nicotine is addictive.

Yet trials with never smokers and pure nicotine don't show that as a result:
Nicotine treatment of mild cognitive impairment
15mg /day (equal to 18 cigarettes) for 6 months. No dependence noted

Study finds nicotine safe, helps in Alzheimer's, Parkinson's | Tampa Bay Times
"It seems very safe even in nonsmokers," he said. "In our studies we find it actually reduces blood pressure chronically. And there were no addiction or withdrawal problems, and nobody started smoking cigarettes. The risk of addiction to nicotine alone is virtually nil."

Care to link to a study showing dependence in non-smoking humans after pure nicotine dosage?

The modern preference is to use the term 'addiction' for a compulsion to consume or act in a way that will often result in harm at some point; 'dependence' is used for compulsion to consume or act in a way considered harmless by modern urban living standards.

Smoking, given the harm caused by tar and other chemicals would be an addiction.
Consuming just nicotine would not cause harm and this would not be addiction, merely dependence.

Also, tolerance is usually stated as a core factor for addictive drugs. Nicotine does show signs of tolerance. People consume the same amount of nicotine for decades based on the individual, be that a pack a day or 3 packs a day, it stays constant for years.

This poll smells Manipulation. In reality there are just 2 simple options:

- let the market decide
- let the government decide

If I had to do it all over again, I would surely do it differently.

I put forth a set of options that in fact do have a slant one way, but that's not being manipulative, that's just not being neutral as it should've been.

I voted number 2 but I think the consumer and industry should dictate what is mandatory not the government or FDA. The more the industry self regulates itself the less argument the government has to regulate the industry for the safety of the consumer.

The current free market lends itself to a lesson in economics at its very best. I am interested to see the outcome.

Well said.
