Another ego almost goes up in flames today.

But this time was from idiocy I have to admit.

I have 2 ego c-twists that I've had since December. My boyfriend uses one, I use one, it works. He took one to work with him as usual and comes home smelling like soot and says "well we only have one battery now"

Apparently he left it in his back pocket and it began to heat up. It became extremely hot and began to smoke. Eventually it shorted out and turned off, but continued to smoke for a minute or so.

He says he didn't use the 5 click turn off feature, I'm assume he was sitting on it and was continuously hitting the button. He says that is very possible. I've told him multiple times to be safe with these batteries and not to abuse them, as they can be a hazard. Maybe this time he'll listen.

Lesson learned, don't leave your e-cig on in your back pocket, turn it off. ;)

It's weird isn't it? My EVOD 650 mAh is mis-behaving as well. It took a long time to charge last time I charged it, and got warm. I used it yesterday, and it got warmer on the charger than the last time. I disconnected it, and its now going to be removed from my house. I just don't trust it anymore.

Yes I'd get that thing out. Once they start misbehaving they are done, best to toss it and replace it. Luckily they are pretty cheap, I'm going to the B&M today to see what they got. Maybe I'll upgrade to something else.

Nothing is idiot proof be happy he don't keep a gun in his pocket

That's the truth. Luckily he doesn't have any guns, I won't let him buy one until he takes a gun safety course.

Haha! So true! The egos are rebelling against us lately, seems like these suckers are exploding or catching fire a lot lately.

That's a pretty irresponsible statement there. I use them almost exclusively since I began vaping over a year and a half ago. "Ego" is a generic term... it just means threading. Allegations of something dangerous should at least include the brand. Not meaning to be offensive but... really.... noobs read here and, as I said, steering them away from something so proven, user-friendly, dependable, economical with tons of protections as a Joye Ego for instance is... yeh, irresponsible. And I agree with the 10-second shut off... something not right here.

And then there's your lead-in: "Another ego almost goes up in flames today. " "Another?" Links please... especially non-user-caused ones.

I agree completely. The number of units sold compared to the number of reported catastrophic failures of eGo type Li stick batteries is amazingly low. Take out the operator error factor and it's phenomenal. js

This was not to say these are "bad" batteries. They are great, I love them. They are a great price and a very good product to start with.

There have been 3 threads recently about Ego style batteries exploding or smoking/catching on fire. I don't feel the need to link them, but I'm sure some people are familiar with them that are reading this topic, so that was just thrown in there.

This particular one that was ruined is no name brand. A copy of the Joytech C Twist. Went out today and bought a real Vision Spinner to replace it.

This battery did have a 10 second shut off, but I imagine that somehow the button got repeatedly pressed.

I don't blame the battery, I blame the operator of said battery who failed to use it responsibly. As you can tell, this thread was a mix of humor and warning people to turn off their batteries if they are going to keep them in their pocket.

I've seen such stories a few times, and keep an eye on my Ego-C Twists just to be safe- A slight hassle, can't charge overnight etc. but nothing compared to waking up to.....(shudder.) They are genuine, but 2 new VV/VW off-branders I just picked up deserve extra attention. Once again, just to be safe- There is no 100% safe battery chemistry- Yet. Cazan

Clearly we must ban back pockets, cars, and wrong chargers.
Ego's do not like either of those and have blown in each..

I had an ego that would not shut off so its not hard to believe that may have happened.

Just wondering if your just speaking in generic terms - lots of crap out there that aren't genuine Joyetechs and Visions and stuff..Tons of super cheap clones in this area of the market. Genuine ego types cost around 20 bucks or so, and you can buy ego generics for 5 bucks.
I have to wonder if there a big difference in the failure rates..:?:

Mine was a generic, purchased in a 3 pack.. 2 ok one was bad (pictured), another ego 950mah generic I purchased was never right. The threads on the generics after 6 months of heavy use are stripped and unuseable my genuine joytech after a year the threads are still good. Yes you sometimes get what you pay for but for 6 months 13 bucks 3 pack I was satisfied with the generics, overly satisfied with the 30 buck single joytech..
