I did some serious digging and could not come up with a single image of an e-cig that looked like a USB memory stick. Lot of chargers, but not one single e-cig. As for looking like a pen, those are just eGo style batteries.

Besides, what in tarnation does that have to do with the manufacture of a new battery type?

Sounds great indeed!

Hopefully, Eveready, Duracell, Panasonic or Energizer won't buy up the patent and throw it away in a safe deposit box somewhere to be forgotten. This would prove a threat to their return customer index...much as we saw with the invention of the good 'ol light bulb. Now, they have the lifespan timed to the minute... ;) Gotta have you coming back for more, ya know?

Its not the battery companies we need to worry about. I see TREMENDOUS application for this technology in the micro-drone industry--battery life in tiny, lightweight packages is the thing that is holding this technology back from being implemented on an annoyingly wide scale.

If the DOD or DHS gets hold of this tech, and makes it practical for real-world use, they will slap "classifications" on it, and lock it down for their own use for 10 or 20 years, and will severely limit or even prohibit it's use in the civilian sector. Just like the CIA did with flexible, high-output solar cells in the 1980s...

i saw this the other day on a tech blog. i believe the trade-off for a similar sized battery was drastically reduced charge time, but with a moderately decrease charge capacity. Basically an 18650 sized battery in this solid state form would only last as long as an 18500, but you could charge it in 2-3 minutes. I always have a charge cable around and feel like its a win. Full charge in the time it takes to pump gas. Batteries need to make a leap in technology not only for ecigs, but for phones, tablets, anything portable.

As far as juice storage goes, with very small batteries and a tiny circuit board / chip for the circuitry, there would be enough room in the body of an ego-sized or a cigarette-sized PV for a juice chamber, for example, to last at least a day or 2. With such small electronics, a folding device could likely be easily created.
Technology is a wonderful thing......

Ii saw a news article on this recently. I really had some questions on the life of the device. I find it hard to believe that it has even 1X the charge life of current batteries. While 10X the number of charges seems likely.

It would be nice though. There is so much we could do, but the only hang up is the lack of a high density power source.
