I definitely remember when you could smoke on the plane, especially since I pretty much gave up flying since then, other than one unavoidable occasion. Sadly, now that I have quit smoking, that's of no help, at least on Air Canada.
Back in the good old Wild West days, the first five rows of a plane were non-smoking and the rest were smoking. One time they put me and my wife in the non smoking section by mistake. You should have seen the fuss I put up

I was eventually told that no I can't smoke in the aisles so I told them fine, I'm going to have one in the ba
throom and that's what I did. This was before they had smoke detectors there by the way.
I guess the good old days of being able to smoke at the back of the bus are long gone as well. That's where all the cool people hung out and people would bring beer and someone often had a guitar and it all made the trip more palatable.
At least I can take the train now, instead of having to endure a stop every several hundred miles to get out and smoke and having them tell you this is the more human way to travel. I'd probably want a room though as I hate coach, and that would bring back some good memories of taking the train with Dad back in the early 70's, which was the last time I took one.
I'm still on the side of smokers by the way even though I'm not one anymore. I hate seeing people being oppressed. Those things hanging from the ceiling would be a big step up from kicking them outside and 50 meters from the door or whatever.
