I like for each of my two coils to be within 0.1 ohm of each other. If they are off more than that, they wont carry the load equally, and you will get reduced vapor output from the higher resistance one.

I try not to worry about it too much, cuz if I did, it would prolly take me hours to set up a dual. It already takes me long enough, all the while trying to suppress the perfectionist in me.

To save my sanity, I just make sure I cut two similar lengths of wire, wrap both the same number of times, and leave cutting the tails until AFTER dry-burn & pinching. Part of me wants to measure the resistance of both coils separately, but I'm pretty successful in telling him, "NO!"

:D

I have 28g and 32g wire but the 32g is harder for me to work with.......not impossible but harder.

So, I am sure from Ed's pic that I am using too much cotton, I am not putting the air holes in the right place, should probably make a dual coil.............and I think I might be underpowering too.

Does a position high or low matter? Even with the top screw, halfway down?

To start, even with the air holes. :thumb:

EDIT: This is not an issue if I make them with the same number of wraps and the same diameter, BTW, but I do check. When you get them both hooked up, they should glow in a fairly even manner when you pulse them. Make sense?

It does, I just need to get a coil above 2ohms. I haven't been able to do that yet.

Bonus question - any reason why my ohm meter reads higher than my Provari and iTaste ohm meter?

Directly in line with the air hole height. You want that air stream to strike dead center of the coil.

Increase the diameter, or more wraps... What diameter are you using right now?

BONUS: You have to subtract the resistance of the leads on your multimeter. Touch the tips together, I bet it reads a tenth or two...and I bet that is the difference! It is between my Fluke 333 tru RMS and my ProVarii.

It seems like every few years some Intel troop decides to start sht with me and every single time they come into it with some smug sense that they're smarter than me because they're intel and I'm maintenance. I ended this one pretty quickly though. conversation:

Him: how about that SERGEANT!?

Me: Sir please calm down. I need this for the major.

Him: You don't know what you're talking about. *covers the mouthpiece of the phone* I'm tired of these stupid maintenance guys thinking they know what they're doing. I just want to smack the .... out of them. *uncovers it* I can't do that because it doesn't meet commanders intent.

Me: Here's the AFI reference that says that you WILL do that. Also you don't want to fight with me verbally OR physically. I'm smarter than you and I'll beat your ....

Him: You're smarter than ME. how many languages do YOU speak toughguy?

Me: That just means more people can understand that you don't know what the fck you're talking about. Now are you going to get the major that cutoff or am I going to give this to my commander.

Him:...I'll have to get back with you.

I have a fluke meter but holding the wire in place to run it can be a pain. The coils I build for the KF is on a 2mm screwdriver. I built some at 1/16 but it was too low and the cotton didn't wick right. I did the IGO coil on a 1.8mm screwdriver.

These are built coils on the Kayfun base.......on the box style ohm meter with the 510 threading and they read x.x and then when moved to the Provari, they read x.x

Which Igo do you have. I have an Igo-L which has only 2 posts. From my reading and help from the person who I got it from the air hole position is important. You need to make sure the air hole(s) are lined up with your coil(s). Also, with cotton, less is more. If you have too much or it is compacted it will not wick right. I am a beginner here so this is all I can offer you at this point.

I read that some people drill out the air holes to be larger too. There are more threads on the Igo attys than just the real techie one where they are doing crazy builds. Those other threads may be easier to get some quick info from. Try a search on the particular Igo you have and cherry pick the threads.

I live to serve..............

No worries if not. I don't want to get hammered by the people in the RDA forum and if no one knows, it will make a nice helmet for my GI Joes

Update! Dual coil, 1.9 ohms, less cotton, holes at coil.......WAY BETTER!

Thanks for the help!

I just knew you would get it. Congratulations.

I just found out that I should have my Russian 91% by this Friday or Saturday. Geez, I am going to have to quickly get over my coil winding fear/funk and start practicing. Hate to take a good working coil out of my Igo-L for the practice but I want to be ready for my new and only grown up RBA.

This is almost as exciting as when I got my Provari. I said almost. Nothing will beat my first Provari Mini arrival.
