Looks like your bottom coil is to close to the insulator (assuming its present). Can you side your wick up and down with the wire giving some resistance but not the kind where you have to pull and it pulls the coil too. When you pull the wick, does the insulator pull too, if so then you likely melted the insulator a bit and your favor is off cause its not wicking right now. That bottom coil needs to have attn paid to it when wrapping on the Zen cause if not you will have headaches.

coil is not touching insulator and it has not melted :)

Also I am copy and pasting everything you have said in a seperate window to try out when the Ihybrid gets here :)

On the ihybrid or all of them.
I run fat thick wicks and if I pull the wick over to the positive post the tension breaks it when voltage is applied.

What? lol

What my problem was- In preperation for the Ihybrid I took my Zens insulator out to try and wrap a coil It pops everytime near the positive post. The wick is not touching the postive post or the bottom of the tank in any way.

Well, I'm a genesis noob, but hopefully this will help. I had no issues with the first SS mesh wick I ever made (which was earlier today) and I did the following:

1. Jack frost method
2. Torch and quench 3 times
3. VG burn off 3 times
4. Cigarette paper method

Did that and no issues. I probably went overboard, but hey it works.

Note: The bottom coil doesn't have to touch the insulator to melt the insulator. When you do a dry burn you will see the mesh get orange, not just the Kanthal, the heat from the mesh can and will travel down the mesh and melt the insulator if the bottom coil is too close.

I will assume you pulled on your wick and the insulator didn't slide up with your wick, if it did then it has melted against the wick, even a little bit will inhibit wicking.

There is a happy place for your coil to be.....not to tight and not to loose. :)

Watch rnmreviews on youtube.
I pretty much do mine the same as Rick.

maleko: you caught me before editing the post - I do not use the insulator in the Zenesis, no...

I guess you could do without number 2. Otherwise, that's exactly what I've been doing.

Jack frost method (no quench)+ cigarette paper trick+ Zen's method for coiling= EPIC WIN!!!
Got it on the 1st try. Not as pretty as Zens but no hot spots. Now to just break in my wick. So not used to how quiet a genesis is compared to how loud my carto tank is. I keep thinking it's not firing.

faceless do can you tell me the thread size and pitch of the poss. screw?
im looking into getting a button head screw to use.
I want to try to keep my wicks as straight as poss.

Just take the one that came with it and tell them what you want and that it needs to be the same length and thread configuration. I would definitely tell em it has to be SS as well. Have you tried pulling the one from the Zen you have, to see if that fits. If it does then you can just order one from Mike. :)
