The iHybrid APV - A fully Customizable Genesis

Nancy: Here is what I do and I have so far had 100% success with every atty I have owned Zenesis/iHybrid/DID/Orion/DID.

Jack Frost: Torching the mesh on both sides before rolling, I do not quench in water although some do. I have found that it is not necessary. There is no such thing as over doing the torching. Torch both sides thoroughly. I hold the mesh with some needle nose so I can torch more of the mesh and the torch does nothing to the needle nose.

Fold one edge of the mesh (about 2mm), so that when you roll there is no stray SS wire protruding to short against your coil or center post.

On the iHybrid: Use a large size paper clip that has been straightened. Mine are covered with a plastic coating so I use two. One I remove the plastic coating by taking a knife and cutting it off by pushing the blade at an angle to the tip, till the plastic is gone from the straight end. The one I leave plastic on, I take and roll the mesh onto. Bend you mesh a bit before you begin so that it has a curve before beginning to roll on the paper clip. Lay the paper clip (with plastic) at the end that DOES NOT have the fold and bend the mesh around the paper clip, now roll the mesh and paper clip between your thumbs and fingers till the mesh wraps into a straw. Keep using your finger tips and thumbs to make it a tight wrap around the paper clip. Remove the paper clip with the plastic and stick the paper clip without plastic into one end and torch, do this several times, even do the ends into the straw hole. Flip the wick around and do the same on the other end.

Now take some juice or I prefer straight VG and put some on your wick. Light with your torch or a cig lighter (I use my torch cause I don't want the chemicals that come out of a cig lighter contaminating my wick). Let it completely burn off on its own the entire distance of the wick. Torch to orange again. Apply more VG (this is me, you may use juice), light it on fire but this time once it is lit, blow it out, light again, blow out....do this till it wont light and then torch orange again. Last time apply VG and light and blow once more, repeating the last step a second time. Finally apply VG or juice and don't burn or torch....only touch the very ends of the wick....touching it as little as possible. Insert into your iHybrid and cut the wick so its the appropriate height remembering it shouldn't touch the bottom. Insert the paper clip with plastic and wrap your coil, I don't use rolling paper but some do. If you apply a small amt of rolling paper, then pulse fire till the paper burns and then blow it off your wick.

After you wrap your coil, look at how your wick is sitting in the wick hole, if it is pressing hard against one side, use a jewelers screw driver (what I use) or the paper clip, and move the wick around so that it isn't pressing hard against one particular side of the wick hole. Even the best oxidation can be pressed through with enough pressure.

Also a .99 package of rolling papers can save you a lot of frustration. I wish I had known that trick when I started out lol.

Wrap dry wick were coil goes in 2 layers of cigarette paper, stick it on with juice or plain PG or VG, wrap coil and fire.

Not only will it fire every single time but as you burn off the cigarette paper it leaves a perfect coating of oxidation right under your wick.

I still havent used the cig paper trick, I might mess with it to see all the hype

I wish I would have known before I packaged it up Nancy, I would have wrapped a coil for you

That depends where you left off... Lately it has been lots of new box mods, especially the ones coming out DNA-equipped. Provape latest Provari's are now in 3 new colors. I believe Smoktech came out with the ZMax, not to be confused with their VMax. Past that most of the latest and greatest stuff new stuff has been RBAs. I don't follow everything, and not too much stuff from other countries

Honestly, I'll be happy when my iHybrid arrives and I'll just get different wattages with different coil wraps

This is basically the method I use also. I use the cig paper trick also. Place wick with paperclip in the iHybrid and eyeball where the mesh starts to come out of the tank. I usually pinch where it starts to come out for reference. From the point where you are pinching to just below the top of the wick should be how wide the cig paper should be. Don't use the glue side of the cig paper when making your cuts. The length should be about 1/2 the length of the cig paper. After you're done cutting the strip put the wick back in and measure again same as before. Take the wick out and wrap the strip around the top portion of the wick. If you have problems getting it to stick just use a dot of juice once you're all wrapped around use juice to seal it closed. Place the wick back in the iHybrid. Watch Zen's video on coil wrapping basics to get the method down. Pay close attention to the last coil as it should have very little distance between the wick and positive post. He doesn't use a paperclip but it makes the wick more stable. After you are done wrapping around cig paper and wick lightly pinch the top of the wick and coils and pull the paperclip out. Pulse fire till the paper turns to ash and blow off the excess. This leaves a thin layer of carbon under the coils and helps to prevent shorts. Make sure you have no hot spots or shorts. All coils should glow evenly. If not nudge them around a little till they do. Once they are fill with your fav juice put a couple drops on the wick too. When vaping remember to try to keep the device at the 3 o'clock position. If you vape it vertically the wick will dry out. After about a week the wick should be broken in enough that ya don't need to do the cig paper trick again.

It really is easier than it sounds. I learned all this in just 2 weeks having my iHybrid and it was my 1st genesis apv.

I guarantee you'll be happy with your iHybrid. I use mine every day.

Oh and measurements I used for the iHybrid for cutting my mesh was 50mm x 20mm. I like thin walled wicks, I think they have much better flavor but that is personal preference and your tastes may vary.

50mm us prolly a little long, 45mm would be fine but I have a ton of mesh so I didn't worry about half a cm.

I like your instruction post Crypto but I won't re-paste it because it's quite long and still on this same page and I don't need to clutter the thread. Regardless you know I'm referring to the instruction thread.

That's sort of the balancing act. You want to move your wick in towards the post but not have it pressing too hard against the edge of the tank and causing the dreaded tank short/instant coil pop.

That's really the trick to rolling a wick without insulators.

The latest and "greatest" new VV ProVari killer is the iMotion. They even copied the tank grooves from ProVape.

It will be the end of everything ProVari until they start failing a week from now and version 2 is released....then version 2 will be the new ProVari killer.

Note: I'm not a ProVape fanboy but as long as I've read this forum the new ProVari killer has been released weekly. Why people expect every new VV slapped together from random parts and costing 50-90 dollars to be the end of a proven and rock solid device is beyond me.

Still waiting for all my stuff today *grumble* inconsistent mail times make me irritable. USPS has been horrid at updating lately and nothing actually says out for delivery but all my packages passed through my local sort facility this morning so they should be here.

Today's haul should be:

Green iHybrid tubes
120ml Fresh Pineapple from pink spot
3 Mawn drip tips
Parts to complete another GGTS that I'm putting a brushed finish on to match the ZAG top cap. I have a bunch of the shiny ones that I'm constantly polishing. Want one that doesn't need it all the time.

That's what I like most about this iHybrid. I haven't really had to clean it once and it looks just as good as when it first came. The finish doesn't lend itself to getting dirty and I'm really appreciating that right now. I have too much other stuff that I need to polish all the time

I tried the rolling paper once but only once. Here is why, I could taste the aftermath of burning the paper during the first half a tank. Also some mention that when using rolling paper, you then pulse and check for hot spots and nudge the coils to remove the hot spots. The purpose of using the rolling paper is to put a layer of carbon between the wick and the coil, if you start moving the wraps around then you end up moving the coil from the carbon you built up by using the rolling paper. Regardless of that the nudging technique to remove hot spots and shorts will negate the need for the rolling paper, plus my main reason for not using this technique still remains to this day, the taste I experienced during half a tank after performing this technique. Guess I have sensitive taste buds or folks are fine with half a tank of yuck. The way I oxidize and wrap coils works for me and my juice tastes as it should from the onset. Yup I have to nudge from time to time, especially after dry burning and cleaning with my trusty brush and distilled water but with a little patience and determination that only takes about 5 min to work out and back to blissful vaping I return. Everything I have posted is in no way the only way to do things, everyone uses different techniques and are adamant with their methods/results, I will only say this is what works for me every time and if it helps someone get their genny legs under them then these posts serve some purpose.

Oh.. my take on the VV of the week... I knew I had a ZAP coming, I have a really tight budget.. I spent a couple weeks looking around everywhere I could find for something to stick it on. I found a bunch of options that would have mostly worked but I decided on the Provari because I knew it would just work and keep working. As for the VV? I stuck the ZAP on it, set it to 4.5 and it hasn't moved. =)

I can’t wait until the website is open so I can buy everything you put up. I can see now that you will be getting the majority of my vaping budget.
