No more running down the street naked on dares...too risky.
Since I may want to un-retire one day I can't do that kind of stuff lol. The accounting association would punt me for sure and possibly the engineering one as well. Accountants with criminal records can't be members, go figure. Not sure about the engineering society , but it seems likely. I think lawyers, ironically, are the only ones that don't get punted for stuff like that.

For anyone having hotspot issues or problems setting up a coil:
Try the Petar K method. I take no credit for this but it's brilliant. I also have no idea why it works so well but I just tried it three times with a wick not as well oxidized as I usually do.
The method is basically:
1) Find a drill bit that fits through your wick hole. Wrap you wire tightly around it to your desired number of coils, 3/4/5/6 or whatever. The put that through your wick hole so the coil is in place to be pinned around the negative and positive terminals. Spread your coil out after it's pinned so it's even and carefully remove the drillbit.
At this point you will have a perfect coil suspended directly over your wick hole.
2) With a not fully charged battery very quickly fire your coil a couple of times until it glows red. Do it fast so it doesn't pop. This will stiffen the wire a lot and you will now have a perfectly formed coil suspended directly over your wick hole.
3) Roll your regular wick and do your regular process and then insert the wick through the coil into your tank.
4) Enjoy a perfect coil with no hotspots.
I'm not sure why this works so well. Maybe it's because the coil is perfect with no kinks or bends and you don't have a chance of scraping your wick with the tug and pull of wrapping. However, I've done this 3 times now and not had a single hotspot or problem. I don't think that's ever happend.

Either it's not pinned well on the screws or you had a major short and immediately popped the coil right at the top.

I think it's not very popular and I really wanted to test it before I posted about how well it works.
I've determined, for me anyway, that most of the hotspots and shorts are created because the wick gets banged up against the wick hole a bit in wrapping. The drill bit lets you wrap it perfectly with no pressure on the wick. I also think that with this method the coil floats the perfect distance from the wick and can't really short out. I've actually watched someone do it with a wick that wasn't even oxidized and it worked fine. It was just burned off through a flame to get any crud off the mesh and it fired perfectly.

I assume this is on an iHybrid so if you're not getting anything on your coil you have a bad connection somewhere. It's a mechanical mod so the points of failure are pretty sparse. As long as your battery is in right and your switch is hitting the bottom it has to be in your coil somewhere.
It could be popped already, it's hard to spot. Or the coil is not properly connected on both ends.
It won't glow red until it's getting close to dry. Red is bad on a wet wick. Is it firing at all?
