I usually use 32 kanthal but place sent me a bunch of nichrome will I notice a diff if use 32 nichrome same wraps just like I do kanthal ? Does it have bad taste or what ? Why does everyone use kanthal now instead of nichrome..

Kanthal is more durable than nichrome.

How is this for proof of concept?

A wick that has not been oxidized at all....top part of it was run once through a regular lighter just to burn off any possible junk on the SS. Bottom part of it was not touched at all. It's touching the sides, it's touching the bottom of the tank. No shorts, no problem, perfect coil...without having to oxidize the wick :)

Using the method I described a few pages back.

Ezkill, how hard is it to get the wick through the coil though?

Not at all actually. If you use the right size drill bit that just fits through the hole you just pass the wick through the coils. It's about as hard as putting it through the tank. You fire the coil after you take out the drill bit and it makes it very stiff and it just hangs there when you put the wick through.

Are you wrapping the wick Petar's way?

Only gave up this method because I love fat wicks and had problems shoving it in the hole.

Nope just my regular wick wrap...wrapped around a 16 gauge blunt tip needle with a small piece of wick shoved in the straw.

It's fat, completely fills the hole.

Don't get me wrong I'll still probably oxidize my wicks. I just won't be as picky about doing it lol.

I heard that you can do this method without even bothering to oxidize a wick. Apparently you can. I mean it just fired perfectly on the first try. Gave the wick one tiny twist because I had some lose pieces on the cut line that looked like they might eventually be a problem and that's it.

The only thing I did was rolled the bottom of the wick a little tighter so I could easily pass it through the coils into the tank. Not much, just rolled it between my fingers a few extra times.

Guess I need to try the Petar again.

How many inches of mesh are you using?

I would still oxidize for improved wicking.

Not sure how Ezkill did it but I just went through my drill kit set and shoved them all in until I found a snug one.

One day I will organize these bits! No idea what size it is though, so sorry.

ok next question can a screw be used instead? or are the threads too close?
