i used "Mothers Aluminum and Mag Polish" with a very soft cloth... the polish is smooth so it does not affect the machining marks and looks brand new once done
you can get this polish at any auto parts store like Napa, Advanced Auto, Pep Boys, Auto Zone... and huge amount of it for only like $5 lol will be enough for you to polish 5 ihys a day for 40 years lol

I made a post with pictures in this thread on how to polish aluminum but another way is to get a dremel and use the felt pads with the red rouge and when you use the pad on the tube go in a pattern that goes around the tube not length way's that will get you swirl marks. This is what I use to polish all mine including my GGTS and can pull out all the scratches
Thanks for the 30awg info guys. Well so far so good out here. I havent lost power only a few brown outs but where I am at in storms like these its either mild or horrendous. My only positive is that my place is so old its somehow on the same electrical grid as all the emergency stuff in town. So if I do lose power I am one of the first to get it back along with the DR's office and the police station. I hope everyone else weathers this storm well, and if you are in NJ be extra safe

Hahahahaha...I feel your pain. Dropped mine last week in my garage, pretty sure my heart stopped for a second. 5ish foot drop onto concrete. All I could do was try to break the fall a little with my foot. I was positive the tank was shattered but nope, a barely noticeable ding on the tank sleeve and top cap was it.
Silver lining, I now have two indexing marks to know that the air hole is lined up with the wick/coil

Yeah you need a metal rod (cut a old screwdrivers handle and point if needed) then a solid piece of foam or pool noodle. Cut the noodle to fit inside the body tight. Then push the rod thru the foam and attach to drill. Wala instant lathe.

Good morning everyone!
There is another dremel bit, the 520 polishing bit. It has a polishing compound and lubricant already impregnated into the bit. I use it for all my polishing jobs, from brass to SS. It will take out any surface scratches and even more aggressive stuff.
The only thing I will say is. Don't install it and go nuts on something. The bit itself will not damage your stuff in any way shape or form but it like any dremel thing it can pull on you when going over the curve of a tube for instance. I always tell people to get the feel of it on the back of SS table spoon from their cutlery drawer. Again the bit won't damage your stuff, but the spinning collar of the dremel itself might if it pulls on you suddenly.
That bit is the least messy thing I've found as you don't need to load it with polishing compound. It's literally a magic eraser for light scratches. Quick, cheap and easy.

Well, I'm right in the middle of the path of Sandy- far Eastern PA, 15 miles from the Jersey border, and it's projected to make a direct hit. Hopefully I don't miss the dragons! (I didn't miss them already, did I? It's been a bit hectic today, if you know what I mean...)
