The indoctrination of a new vaper

20-year pack a day Marlboro smoker about to make my first foray into the world of vaping. I've spent a day or two poking around here learning the jargon and my initial order is hopefully on the way soon. I started this thread so that I could provide a daily blow-by-blow to anyone looking to use the e-cig as a way to wean oneself off of "analogs." I hope to do so with a soupcon of humor and hopefully provide a primer to newbies like myself curious about the world of vaping.

After a day or two of mind-spinning research, I opted to begin my journey with a Bloog MaxxFusion. I don't know an 808 from a 901, a 510 from a 666, etc. I still am vague on what a "mod" actually looks like. I don't know from dripping, from cartomizers vs. atomizers, how to refill, etc. I'm beyond clueless. So, hopefully this will help anyone who is equally as ignorant overcome any trepidation one might have about starting down the road of vaping.

I've purchased the MaxxFusion ultimate starter kit with Reds flavored cartos, a 5-pack of cherry cartos, and a 5-pack of blank cartos. Also placed an order with avejuice for a 5-pack of sampler size flavors to begin poking around and see which ones deliver the type of flavor and vapor I'm looking for. I'll begin updating this thread when I receive it (I believe it's all on backorder at the moment.)

doh, don't you hate backorder? This time of year is bad, as all of china is shut down till after spring festival that ends Feb11. If the vendors didnt stock up before the holiday, they are stuck waiting on re-supply till after the chineese are done partying.

The rep from Bloog said in another forum (which I now can't find - haha) that they expect a new shipment this week and will fill all orders at that time. I can only hope this is the case (I work at a logistics company, so I know all about the damn Chinese festivals)

Thanks guys. I'm sure I'll have a number of questions. At this point, I'm simply hoping I made a good choice for a starter kit.. after all the reading I did, it seemed like this was a good product to wet my feet on. Even though it's "kind of pricey", it still isn't bad considering the cost of analogs these days...

Here's a quick question...

I have 10 pre-filled cartos and 5 blanks coming. How many times can I safely re-fill these cartos before I need to buy new ones? Will it be apparent (flavor, vapor production) when these things are t!ts-up? Also, how much juice do you burn through in, say, a month? I'm just trying to figure out how much $$ will be saved going the vape route as opposed to analogs. Makes me feel even better about joining the world of vapers.

How many times you can refill cartos varies. They are designed to be disposable so a carto does not last as long as the atomizer of a 3-piece e-cig (though sometimes an atty fails quickly too). And their life is a bit variable. But some people say you can get about 1-14 refills out of a carto. You need to not run them dry and refill while still wet. If you run a carto dry then the atty inside can be strained from over heating and the atty can singe the stuffing which would make the whole carto taste burnt. So you want to carry enough cartos with you and avoid running them dry at times when you can't refill.

You can also try some new types of blank cartomizers for KR808D-1 - I think MadVapes sells Clearomizers (supposedly you can see how much juice is left) and I think their non-clear form is CE2 R4 cartomizers - these are harder to fill (needs a special syringe kit I got at vaporJunction) but they have no stuffing and are supposed to be able to last longer. I do not know if the Clearomizers need the refilling kit - MadVapes could probably tell you.

Some of the most pleasing flavors I have found (other than plain tobacco juices which are what I started on) are vanillas, chocolates, caramels and tobaccos which include some of these flavors (like RY4 tobaccos - vanilla caramel tobacco, my fave of which is FreedomSmokeUSA's sweet one oRYental 4). I also like FSUSA's tea flavors - the tea is a bit rough in flavor like tobacco and there is a hint of the fruit flavor.

Re dripping - you would need an atomizer to make your Bloog a 3-piece. A 901 atty has a rather soft hit but you can screw a normal (not LR) DSE901 atty right on a KR8 and use 901 carts or a 510/901 drip tip with it. You could also use a 510 atty with the appropriate battery to atty adapter piece. Dripping is not recommended for automatic batteries because they usually have a totally open hole in the threaded end (for the drag sensor). The manual KR8s also seem to have a hole but I think it is somewhat sealed off behind that.

At the top of the Forum are stickies. The best thing you can do is read them and watch 'made for newbie' videos. Lots of explanations for the lingo and what things are.

There is a learning curve, but it's worth it. I quit after almost 30 years of smoking.
