Salem I was in Sarosota, Fla. as Hugo approached...Initally it was predicted too hit South Florida so we high tailed it too Daytona on our exit plan....I stood in a sunny parking lot at the Boot Hill and watched a very black sky approaching...Now we gotta go again so my next stop was the fishing trailer in Manning....Seems like Hugo was following me as the projected strike zone again moved north with me...I hooked my boat up and exited the scene in Manning headed too Fayetteville, NC my home at the time...It struck the Isle of Palms and trekked through Manning and then on West of Charlotte, NC eventually going through The Smokey Mountains...It left a path of destruction the whole way...My trailer in Manning went too the scrap yard...My yard in Fayetteville was knee deep in limbs, pine cones and pine straw...

I parlayed that into another mobile home near Surf City, NC...3 years later I rode out Bertha in that trailer....Never ever again will I do that!! It did @ $2000 in damage...Then the next year Fran struck Surf City directly and my home in Central NC...It was like a damn war zone....After all was said and done I ended up in the black at Surf City and did pretty good making repairs for myself and others...Construction is just one of the many services I offer!!!!!! I got too Surf City in 92...Struck directly by hurricanes 5 times since.....Luckily nothing but debris and the occasional downed pine tree...You can't get paid unless it hits something!! Personally I hope too never see another Cane...but we are overdue....Like I said though....I'm a Pirate...so....?????

I remember Hugo well -- only hurricane I've been through head on -- and caught it coming and going, with the eye passing over us. Many other canes have nicked us over the years, but ElDee, you certainly win the prize! Sigh, the cost of being a Pirate...

Salley? Home of the the Chitlin' Strut? :)

Been there, too! First (and only) chitlin' to cross this tongue....and no beer to wash it down, either, Blehhhh! Don't know what I was thinking, but I will give myself a pass on that as I was much, much younger.

No Hurricanes headed this way presently...Wind gusts forecasted too excede 50 MPH today and looks too be true....The weather has been managable for the most part...We've had some wildfires nearby lately...One started by the Forestry Service.....They should take their own advice on burning...WTH?? It's wooded around the crib...The chainsaw is my friend...Right now I've got three piles of limbs going...I had too remove three trees yesterday due too ice storm damage...Hauled the firewood too a friend whom is a single Father...His Son is 8 and was dying too help us bust up the wood...I sat with him for over an hour schooling him in how too properly use a hatchet...He busted up quiet an impressive stack of kindling....Kindling is cut from the stump of a Southern Yellow Pine..It goes by the Southern Names of, lighterd, fat knots or fat wood...It's said too be fat due too a high content of turpentine...That makes it ignite easily and its smoke is rather black..I explained how too use the hatchet too the youngster and let him have at it...I also told him I would take him too the woods and show him how too find the fat stumps..A very small bundle of fat knots is quiet expensive...I've a few limbs yet too get too the pile but my yard for the most part is ready for Spring....as am I !!!!!!!! I've made a trip too the landfill today and tomorrow I will load up all the scrap aluminum from the body shop...55c a lb. now.. I think it's time....Plus I could use a little boost in petty cash!!!

I noticed the other day another mod had 300 pages on its thread...This post was a day in the life of a common RedNeck...BTW a Buzz or Infinity has been used during all the firewood cutting, debris removal and just general upkeep of the property...My back has been feeling it lately...No problems there mind you just well used lately...Most choose the gym...I choose the woods, chainsaws, axes, hatchets and shovels....Nothing quiet like the satisfaction felt while kicking back and observing the work accomplished while hitting an Infinity....No more butts everywhere!!!

I met a couple from near Louisville last year down at Surf City, NC while I was picking up shark teeth..It's an addictive hobby....Nice people who were living homeless at the beach...KenTuck interests me much mainly because of the Dixie Mafia...Anyone willin to give the Feds the finger....Those old boys up there live and make a living off the land...No WELFARE REQUIRED for their survival...like Hank Jr said.....................

Thats me Dee the splitter is the way to go. I never could find anyone to lift the wood up and put it in the splitter though and someone to stack it.
I also got a whole bunch of wood stacked by the shop for burning. I figure why take it to the dump when I can cut it up and use it in the shop. The only problem is it's too cold to go out and build a fire and wait for it to warm the place up.

The fella I took the wood too just called and thanked me again....We've almost got this winter whipped...72* today and 78* tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FiveCard that wood can be a bear too get up on the splitter..Some from the trunk can exceed 100lbs. quiet easily...My back was feeling the workout of loading it!! My Dodge is a 3/4 ton diesel with a five inch lift....kinda high!! The top of the bed is chin level...I'm debating switching the shop back too wood heat now that propane is thru the roof...I've got a couple of very large white oaks that need too go...That should yield enough for everyone too have plenty...Hopefully no hurricanes will visit and blow anything else down....

El Dee my buddy up in Rocklin (near Sacramento) has 17 Valley Oak on his property. It cost him $7200 to cut one down. There was a danger of it falling on his house. But he had to hire a couple of Arborists to prove the tree was in fact all dead and not just mostly dead ........... welcome to the Left Coast !!!!!

BTW snowed in Santa Cruz yesterday...... WTH
