Hello all,

So, i want to start by saying this was out of being bored a number of years ago and thought to try it again to see the results. First, i got a glass and a peice of paper and a lit cigarette. I caught a inscect that was flying around the light outside before i started smoking. As i smoked i moved the paper that was trapping the insect inside and blew out what was in my lungs each drag til the end. It was never to be cruel or mean just a simple way to see what affects me smoking was having. Once i finished i removed the paper and blew out the smoke.

The first thing i noticed as i smoked the insect had a nervous twitch in its legs and kept cleaning it self. Once it had fresh air it walked around in circles as if it was dizzy. But, at some point it just stopped moving and the next day was in the same position. In the end it was what we all knew these things will kill you at some point.

So the other day i had remembered that and wanted for me to see if vaping has the same effect on a bug. I had been siting in my room when a "volenteer" decided to keep buggin me. So i did the same thing i vaped and the bug vaped with me. The only thing that was a lot different besides the 4,000+ chemicals. The nicotine was very very much high then the camel ultra lights which report to have only .5mg of nicotine in them.

But, i fill the glass as i vaped and kept it up for the same amount of time 15 mins. I did this to mimic the last test if you will. The bug showed signs of nicotine just as last time when i was done i tipped the glass over. The first thing i noticed was the bug looked just like last time dead. More so i noticed the glass did not have a thick haze from all the tar and other things that had collected last time. So i went on thinking the bug was dead every couple of mins looking over. After about ten mins i looked over and the bug was gone no where to be seen.

I from this see that vaping is fairly harmless not completely. But if a tiny bug after the affects wear off can get up and go on and, has no body mass compared to me on top of that. I may be flamed for hurtin some poor bugs but i feel its a real world and easy way to see what smoking did and vaping is doing. I had seen the paper towl test but i feel its a good test but poeple are all different as is what there lungs take in and absorb. So just thought i would share with you all.

Interesting findings.
As a psych major I appreciate that you attempted to replicate the original experiment and it's variables.

Good to hear the fly survived this time, and as for the paralysis, I hear nicotine in it's true intention is created in tobacco as a paralytic for insects to deter them from eating the leaves. So it makes sense.

Altho I probably won't attempt the first experiment for the sole fact I'm too lazy to catch a fly, it would be interesting to see.

Well i could believe that tobacco has that affect to deter bugs as it does the same for humans. If the leaves are wet they can't be harvested if i remember correctly. The nicotine gets suspended on the leaves and as a person rubs on them they contract the liquid. This will cause a serve dosage of nicotine to be deposited upon the skin which we all know will be absorbed into the skin which at those levels becomes lethal.

Great test Being that I like to try things for myself I decided to duplicate the experiment. Could not find an insect in the house and I was to lazy to go outside and look so the only thing I could see was my dog dozer. I tried to put a garbage bag over his head but that didn't work to good. Now that I had his attention all I could do was hold a pail on top of his head. I borrowed one of my girlfriends smokes and took a drag and blew it in his face and the pail at the same time. After I got the bleeding stooped and got stitches in my arm I realized SMOKING IS HARMFULLY TO YOUR HEALTH

If that's Dozer in your avatar I don't think he needs any stimulants.

Great post, even better sense of humor!

One thing that i would wonder... When smoking the mosquito tend to leave not liking the smoke as they sense that it is fire and would leave you alone i assume. Vapor is not the same so if you are in the woods and vape in a heavy populated area will they leave also sensing the nicotine in the area perhaps such as they do with repellant?

Good question. I would also like to know. My horses still move away from the vapor as if it were smoke.
