Oh! Your granddaughter is a Type 1 (aka: Juvenile) Diabetic... If you or your granddaughter has any questions just ask me.. I have the same type and have been a diabetic for 33 years (this past January).. I've been
through it all, believe me... I have been on an insulin pump for the past 4 years, and it is wonderful.. I'm not the greatest example of the "perfect" diabetic, but I know my stuff.. Remember that type 1 is an idiopathic disorder, so she didn't do anything herself to cause it.. It just happens..
If possible, I would suggest she goes to Joslin/Beth Isreal Deconese Treatment/Teaching Unit.. She stays for a week, and as they control her blood sugar, she also has classes to teach her everything about diabetes.. It's great.. You hang out with other type 1 diabetics for the week (with people of all ages.. Kids and adults).... She gets to see that although it's a pain in the neck and it can cause the development of some nasty situations, she can be independent and take control of herself.. It's a up to her in aot of respects...
