Are you cleaning your atties on a regular basis? And by regular basis, I mean every 1-2 days?

That atty may not be dead.

Here's what I do. I do this every night, since I only have 1 atty I use regularly (I use cartos most of the time, and my other atty is an LR - don't use it much).

I use 70% isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) in a small cup, and drop the atty in for 5-10 minutes. Then I pick it up, with the top facing up, and watch the alcohol drain out the bottom. What you're looking for is a steady stream.

If it's dripping, and not a a stream, dunk it back in the alcohol, and lift it out again, top up, and let it drain. I usually get a stream after doing this 5-6 times.

Let it dry in a well-ventilated area for several hours, or overnight. When you can't smell the alcohol in it anymore, it's dry.

Now, give it another try.

Less than two weeks is a little short, particularly if you have them in rotation. I typically expect around a month with a standard atty, a little less than that with an LR. Atty quality varies widely, however, even from the same batch from the same supplier. I've had good results from one supplier, so that's the only place I buy them from. If a few from the same supplier perform poorly, then it's time to move on, otherwise, just assume you got a dud.

You can check to see whether it is indeed dead by using a multimeter to test resistance between the inner contact and the outer threads. You should see something around 2.7ohms. If you see no resistance, it's a goner.

I get 2-3 months out of my atty's , two in rotation. I clean them twice a week with hot vinega and once every two weeks with comercial solvents which need rinsed and bouiled off before use.

Always clean befoe first use - remove manufacturing oils which are nearly universall on anything metal you buy.

As for catros, I pull the fiber once a week and give them a hot vinegar dip then a soapy bath - wipe with atiseptic wipes daily - just me, keeps them clean enough to suit my senibilities.

I've had attys last 6 weeks and I've had some die on the 3rd day. Sort of the nature of the beast. They are pretty small devices with a fair amount of pieces involved and a long ship distance - lots of bumps and spills possible.

I've also noticed heavier and thicker liquids tend to end their lives early. I think it allows more heat to collect near the coil and is the stuff that crud is made of that builds up on the coil which then leads to a "hot spot" on the coil and eventual breakage.

I find lighter colored liquids that vape fully out of the cart seem to keep my attys living the longest .... along with a blowing them out and allowing them to drain each night.
