I didn't quit right away but I cut down by half immediately so for my first couple of months I saved $100 a month over smoking. That's 1200 ciggies not smoked right there. The savings and the cigs NOT smoked went up and I saved $150+ dollars a month and smoked 900 less ciggies a month for the next 3 months. Now I barely smoke and save about $200 a month and a carton cigs is lasting me over 6 weeks. My next big step is to just buy a pack at a time:)

Yep, I haven't been an instant quitter but I started on August 11, 2012 and I am very satisfied with my progress. I figure I have saved over $1000. Honestly, I have spent at least that much on different equipment, stocking up on nic, buying DIY supplies but the savings is starting to go directly into my pocket now and it is fun to have some extra cash!!!!!

When I started smoking, cigs were cheap. I'm thinking 25 cents a pack. The vast majority of my smoke dollars has been because of the taxes that the government figured out it could throw onto our backs because we are "evil smokers". Guess sticking it to the government is one of the bonuses of quitting smoking.

By the way, I am down to 2, maybe 3 cigs a day. I know there will be a day soon when I just don't pick up a cig:)

Two plus pack a day to 2 a day. Feels good.

even at the rate i was buying smokes before i started vaping I have saved a truckload of money, even after i take off the 750$ I've spent on vaping in the last 6 months. I was smoking a carton and a half a week. cartons were costing about 100$ each here in NY(sometimes i cheated out and bought smokes on the Indian reservation for 30$ a carton but still.)

so 6 cartons a month@ 600$ x 6 months 3,600$
vaping supplies for 6 months = 750$ and i have over 200ml of juice in the box at the moment, several Ego twists and a provari with a really nice carto tank made of T316 stainless. Someday down the road i may get an Evic or something fancy, but at this point i'm only buying juice and the occasional 18650 battery at 12$.

so in all reality i saved $2,850 in the last 6 months. Where that money went is anybody's guess, because i called the bank...it's not in there.

I think they need to adjust those lil money saver counter thingies to subtract what you have spent on vapeing :p I bet most would be cut in half if not more

I keep track of vape expenses in my signature. Everytime I buy something, I add it to the total. The amount I've spent since September 24, 2011 includes two starter kits given to friends, plus almost 50 flavors for DIY. BTW...when I started DIY in November 2012, the expense has really dropped!

By keeping a running total, I know exactly how much moola is in my 'slush fund', and I intend to reward myself with something really COOL...at some point. Don't know what it would be right now, but it's gonna be GOOD when it happens! :D

What's even more staggering is figuring out how much you spent on cigarettes as a smoker.

Ain't it da troot!! What decided me and my wife to quit was suddenly focusing on the fact that we were spending over $3,000 a year on tobacco. For seniors on a fixed income, that is freakin' insane! We've only been at this for a couple weeks, and I am still blown away every time I realize that from the first day we had our PVs neither of us has even wanted a cigarette. Both of us smoked for fifty years.

My Dad told me he freaked when they finally hit a dollar a pack.

How well I remember. I swore I'd quit if they ever went up that high.

Reading this made me do the math. I have spent ALOT on vaping. When I shop, I tend to over do it. I smoked and my husband dipped. We no longer do either. Between the two of us we spent $3000 a year on our tobacco. In a little over a month I have spent $1600 on vaping. WOW! We have an eRoll, 4 ego twists, and a provari. I have 50 different juices (doesn't include ones I have already bought that haven't arrived yet), 20 of those juices have their own cartos/tanks. I have 10 attys (8 unused), 2 unused clearos, 8 unused cartos, and 4 empty tanks.

I already promised the hubby that I would not buy anymore juice (except for my 4 must haves) until what I have is almost gone. So the only things I can buy now are cartos and I don't need them anytime soon.

If I don't spend anymore, I'll break even at the end of July.

If you notice, I don't an amount saved in my banner. I don't care if I'm up or down as long as I'm not smoking cigarettes (I don't need any feelings of melancholy by being reminded everyday of what I supposedly saved when I don't see much of it).

I rarely paid attention to how much I spent on cigarettes, except for occasionally adding up how many cartons I purchased during a given month, which filled me with frustration and anger since I couldn't stop anyway. I blocked it out of my mind, rather than ruminate day in and day out; I have enough stress in my life. Buying packs, although more expensive, was sometimes easier - it's insidious how there always seemed to be enough around to buy one pack (or two with Marlboro's on-going $1 off for two promotion), but not enough for a carton.
