So my mother just returned from a 3 week road trip vacation with my Aunt. We hail from SoCal, and they drove out to TX to visit some relatives they haven't seen in years. During conversation, I mentioned to my mom that I had quit smoking while she was gone and that I had gone purely to the PV. (I had just started looking into the PVs right before she left.) Needless to say, she was quite happy about my progress - but here is the real kicker...

She told me that her cousing she had visited told her that he had recently cut back smoking as well...

FROM 12 PACKS A DAY TO 6!!!! Are you f*&kin' kiddin' me?! Is that even possible?

I think I'm email bomb the ..... out of every email address I have for him until he makes that switch.

I am in shock everytime I say it....6 packs a day - this is insanity.

Oh no.... She told me she watched him smoke 2 packs in 2 hours at a pub. I know it sounds crazy, but my mom is not quite an old crazy yet - she is an astute woman for sure. I would have to guess that he is not actually "smoking" those 12 packs (or even 6) a day, but he is one of those dudes who just cruzes around with a lit cigarette hanging off his lip at all times. He probably is also one of those guys who sets a smoke down, and rather than go back for it, he just lights another.

I don't think it is possible to smoke 12 packs a day...I'm really not sure that anyone could manage 6. Maybe she misunderstood?

Yah, I was kinda wondering if he was exaggerating a little bit. Now, I was a heavy smoker. I always say (guessed) that I smoked about 1.5-2 PAD (that was work days--weekends were a whole different story), but that was using the Pall Mall 100's. Pall Malls are known for burning slower than most cigarettes. I made the mistake of buying a carton of generics one day, and blew through those in less than 3 days. And, heaven forbid the Marlboro 72's were on special and I picked those up. A pack of those would hardly last me a couple of hours. So, I guess it would depend on what he is smoking.

Either way, he definitely needs to be informed about e-cigs and be able to look at them as an alternative. If he has e-mail, then he has a computer and you can help to guide him to some great sites that are out there; especially ECF.

12, 6, 1 pack a day just send him the good news about your success with your kicking of the habit and hopefully he sees something from it and tries out vaping :) He'll be saving boatloads too, if the stat is true.

Agree!!

No offense, but I hate to criticize someone for the very thing I did. This sorta reminds me of someone with 50 lbs to lose criticizing someone with 100 lbs to lose. I'm sort of hesitant to criticize anyone's smoking habits since I am/was a smoker. I hope (and think) I'll stick with the pv's but who knows what'll happen.

Smoking and drinking sometimes go hand in hand. Maybe his first step is to stay out the pubs if that's where he over-does it.

I do hope he'll quit or at least cut down. This certainly isn't easy for anyone. Hope your Mom gives it a shot too.
