I was trying something "new" today. A 50 mg/ml nicotine vape with about 5% FlavourArts tobacco flavors, and a little tobacco Absolute. Use it more the way one would use an occasional cigarette. Take a few Knock You On Yer .... drags, and put it down. If the object is to not smoke, it seems more appropriate than getting into a whole new chain-vaping habit. I'm not sure, I LIKE chain-vaping at a low-nicotine level, but it seems like a bit of "out of the pan into the fire".

What I'm finding is that after I put down the high-nicotine hose, I start looking for the low-nicotine one, even zero-nicotine, because I need to vape SOMETHING. So in the end it seems like chain-vaping 80% VG 20% PG 20 mg/ml nicotine and 3-5% lovely flavoring is what I keep coming back to .... I have a feeling it wouldn't be easy giving it up. So what is the least harmful mix? More VG, less nicotine?

I'm trying 85% VG next, 10% PG, w/ only 10 mg/ml nicotine, total flavoring 4.6% (2% BlackCurrant, 0.5% each Vape Wizard, Apple, Liquid Amber, Ethyl Maltol in PG, DK Base, 0.1% Grapefruit).

Well this thread is pretty depressing to say the least. lol Just bought close to $150 worth of flavorings. But hey what the heck, I've been a guinea pig for the big tobacco co's for over 30 years why stop now , right! lol

Kate - Do you (or anyone else) have any links or info you could share about this "all VG is not the same"? I'm a little confused by that statement and want to read more about this. Everything I have ever read says that USP Food-grade vegetable glycerin is 99.7% pure, with the remaining 0.3% being water. So how can this stuff be sold as USP grade if what you say is correct?

Between your statement and Lyn's about the difference in taste I'm beginning to wonder as well because I use Humco VG and all my DIY juice have a underlying taste that none of my "e-store" purchased juices have. Not a bad taste but just a funky kinda taste. The horrid taste I get are my fault. lol
Sorry I took so long to get back, but here is a link from an old thread that may enlighten you a bit about Humco glycerin.
I can't say if this is still valid or not, but just FYI.

I've settled (for now) on all VG with 10% water for better wicking, 5-10mg/ml nicotine, and 5% or less flavoring. PG was giving me a lot of mild side effects, VG none. Deep inhalation also strikes me as unnecessary.

Zero flavoring is OK, but to play with flavoring is an aesthetic thing, it's a pleasure. The FA "tobacco" simulations are great, like the Virginia is a masterpiece. A bit of the fruit flavors is lovely too. No matter the concentration, after a while the tastebuds compensate, so heavy flavoring is just unnecessary and increases risk. An unflavored 40mg/ml nicotine all VG is wonderful now and then. Clears the head and palate. Variety. As long as I keep buttery flavors out of the picture, a touch of flavoring doesn't worry me too much, easy does it.

One thing about glycerin. Most of it these days is a 10% byproduct of (plant matter) biodiesel production.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodiesel_production

So cheap they PAY to it have hauled away in tankers. They keep exploring what to do with it. Dow's synthetic glycerin plant in Germany was closed as the biodiesel VG has glutted the market and crashed the pricing. Animal fat complicates the process, so it is unlikely any glycerin we buy nowadays is anything but vegetable glycerin. Of course there are different levels of purity. The stuff I get from lotioncrafter at a few dollars a quart tastes and feels fine.

ALL glycerine is synthetic in that it doesn't occur in quantity in nature. All glycerine must be made via a chemical reaction. "Natural" isn't in the cards.

If you object to glycerine made from animal or petrochemical sources, that is certainly a reasonable thing to object to. If, for any reason you find one glycerine antecedent causes issues for you, by all means avoid that type of glycerine.

But please, please don't equate one glycerine as "natural" or "organic" when ALL glycerines are synthesized via chemistry. Regardless of source materials.

This thread has been quite interesting. My roommate just switched to vaping finally, and he said he doesn't care about the nicotine, flavors or throat hit (those were never what he enjoyed), he just wanted the hand-to-mouth action and "smoke"/vapor visuals. I saw on another thread to buy a bottle of CVS Pure Glycerin USP, so I got it for him today while I was there. The other thread didn't mention anything about adding anything to it though. Will it work at 100%, or does something else need to be added, and what would that recipe be? TIA :confused:

EDIT: In case it matters, he also has a Go-Go PV and uses the cartos that came with it.

I scared hell out of myself. For a year and 3 months I've vaped nothing but: 50/50 or >% VG Cinnamon DIY e-liquid. My nose dripped most that time. I got at least two fever blisters, (with no colds or fevers). I started getting facial pimples. Hell, I'm 67 years old! What the hell am I doing with facial pimples? Then, the worst of all. . .I started coughing again. Haven't smoked an analog in more than 7 months. Nothing in my DIY e-liquid except nic, VG, PGA, & Cinnamon. Figure, of the four ingredients, it's gotta be the Cinnamon. Starting today, I'm mixing nic, VG, & PGA. Just loaded my third 3.5mL carto for today, (day off). Haven't coughed all day. Admittedly, I consider myself a heavy vaper. (Go through a couple 18650's a day). Maybe I'm on to something. Too bad I've got 400mL's of Cinnamon in inventory. Guess I've joined the NO FLAVOR ADDED group. Considering changing my screen name to Lab Rat. I'll check back in a month or two, update thread if situation has really improved or not. JMHO

Cheers,

If your roommate doesn't want nicotine, then you can just add a little water if the glycerin is too thick. 10% does it. If he wants a little flavoring after all, you can get any of the concentrates and add a few drops per 10 ml. I like Flavour Art Virginia or Desert Ship the best, they have a sort of symbolic similarity to actual tobacco, like when you open a fresh pack, and their fruit flavors are great too. In a pinch some grocery store flavoring won't kill ya, even if there's some alcohol in them. Glycerin by itself vapes clouds of sweet vapor and works fine. You could get him a little backup bottle of a nicotine strong juice that he can add some to the glycerin + water in case the old nic-fit hits.
