This is what Dr Loi says on another thread about using menthol crystals -

"First of all get a 5ml eyedropper bottle and fill it up with (at least half) menthol crystals which is available commercially at the pharmacy...and then filled it up to 5ml of homemade alcohol(mine made from rice..) or some people will use ethanol(white wine)...aloow the alcohol to dissolve the menthol crystals with occassional shaking of the bottle....once it is fully dissolved if left standing will separate into 2 layers...the top clear layer will be menthol liquid and the lower will be alcohol....but can only be used if it is mixed into a murky solution...now mixed it to e-liquids of your choice (my preference is Flue-cured tobacco and homemade Menthol at the ratio of 3:2)..."

Thanks Kate. I'm going to try disolving it in warm e-juice instead of alcohol since it disolves in oil, alchohol, or warm water.

I am not totally happy with the strength of Bickford's. Most of them are too weak for my taste. This weekend I had the pleasant surprise of discovering LorAnn's Candy Flavorings at my local Acme grocery store. I fillled up one of those little 3 ml Sweet Breath bottles almost to the top with Bickford's Orange flavor. Then I dripped 7 drops of Orange Cream LorAnn's from a 3 ml pipette in the little bottle. Shook it up and filled a cartridge. What an improvement!

A quick update on my Bickford's experience: I agree with Janet that they are a bit weak, also the flavors are hard to distinguish and actually the vapor smells stronger than it tastes (although it does smell very very good).

I have vaped them straight and also mixed them a few with some 555 kick juice. The praline, cheesecake and eggnog all taste pretty much the same. Pleasant, not too sweet, but not very distinguishable. The strawberry is pretty good, but it doesn't really taste like strawberry, lol. The hazelnut has a good, stronger flavor, tasty, but once again is kind of weak and tastes similar to praline. My favorite is blackberry, it has a very noticeable flavor compared to the others. I guess they all kind of taste the same to me except the blackberry (I did blow out the atomizer between uses, and this wasn't all in the same day).

Overall, I do not regret purchasing so much of it because it was about $27 for 6 30mL bottles; they will last forever and all of the flavors will mix well with commercial juice, which is mainly what I bought them for. If I wanted 0 nic juice with my Bickford's, I would mix VG and probably buy some LoriAnn's to strengthen the flavor more. I think Bickford's and VG will end up being very weak but still pleasant.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience for people out there who are looking into Bickford's for flavoring DIY juice. If you want strong flavor, it seems like LoriAnn's is the way to go. If you end up going with Bickford's and don't like it too much, you can always use the flavorings for foods! Imagine that LOL

Forgive me, I'm a true newbie.. just quit smoking real cigarettes ten days ago, and I'm trying to get a handle on e-smoking. So far I LOVE it! Haven't had any trouble with cravings at all, except when someone lights up around me.

I like the idea of mixing my own choice of flavors into e-liquid, but I really don't think I'm ready (or knowledgeable enough) to go the DIY route. So how are some of you doing it? Just.. buying someone else's e-liquid, and mixing Bickford's (or LorAnn's) candy flavorings in with it? What ratio would I need to use? Water-soluable or oil?

That praline and cream you mentioned sounds heavenly, Kate. I want to try! :)

If you read around this DIY thread, you should find most of the answers you're looking for. A quick answer: Say you have a 36mg juice, tobacco flavor. You could mix 1ml of the 36mg juice, 1 ml of pure vegetable glycerin (close to 100% as possible, food grade) and a few drops of LoriAnn flavoring of your choice to make a 18mg juice. If you wanted less nicotine, just add more VG and flavoring to your liking. If you use Bickford's, you will need more flavoring and less VG to get a similar result. That is the most common way to do it (commericial liquid cut with VG and flavor) but if you read around you will find other ways too.

I think a lot of it is experimenting to see what you like, then go from there. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum Nevara and well done on quitting the cigs.

Heart's gave you good advice there, mix high nic commercial juice with glycerine and flavours. It will reduce the nic and add a little sweetness. Glycerine also reduces harshness of commercial juice, some people like smooth and some like harsh so you'll have to try it and see.

Pralines and cream flavour is lovely ;)

Any Aussie here can tell me what we can use? I cant find any Brickmans flavors. And in the store we only have www queenessences.com.au/default.php

And is this the Glycerine you are all talking about? www queenessences.com.au/products/show.php?categoryid=5

I would like to try all this mixing flavors stuff but I am having a hell of a job to find any.

I've read this thread with interest... I like Tropical Bob's idea of giving up nicotine someday. I'm ready to order some of the Kahlua next week, but I decided to try some plain old McCormick cinnamon extract (PG, alc. 40%, H20, and extr. of cinn.).

Tastes good, creates decent vapor, and *almost* has the elusive "throat hit."

BTW, I'm using it in a new Janty mini-fogger.

Interesting possibilities here....
