Our fellow members Quigsworth and bluegrasslover came up with several options for combining cotton with a stainless steel mesh wick. I haven't tried this (yet); but thought it deserved a separate thread from the "Wick materials. Safe vs dangerous" thread.

What was it that Dan was using in his earlier 'pill fob' units?

I went to Michaels last week and got the cotton yarn and have been going between that and the ss mesh, ss mesh with a little cotton wrapped under the coil, yarn only, etc. The yarn that I got has two opposing threads that are wrapped around it in order to hold the cotton together. I have removed those threads to allow for expansion of the yarn, hopefully for better wicking.

I have come to the previous conclusion that the cotton wants to hold the juice. I have to vacuum suck flood the top chamber (ScubaV3) in order for the yard to wick good. In the GTUS the yarn works pretty well but requires some refresh time. In the vid I made on the bunny balls, they seemed to work good at first but refresh is slow. Great taste though.

I'm rambling now as to which tact to take. I might try to use the ss mesh with a little cotton wrapped around the tank hole area on my GTUS and see how that goes. I was have flooding issues with SS only, as well as lots of condensation. Maybe a little cotton film around the coil area as well to make atomisation a little finer in the particle department.

So just like Perlions posted a couple pages back I've also been playing with cotton wrapped mesh wicks in my Line...first, I wanted to make sure is wasn't some "one off" that wouldn't last and run you guys down a rabbit hole but this seems to work really good...btw, this is only really for the genny guys and this is how I do it...

I did this with my GTUS only I used cotton batten. Just spin the wick and the cotton sticks right to it. It looks like a q-tip. I think this is the best my GTUS has ever hit.

Ok, just tried that...pure genius...another classic example of me over thinking something...excuse me while I pull a vid off you tube...

edit, now that I think about it, I'm going to vid that and up it (you'll get full credit)...that's just too good not to spread around...

I did it with a super thin layer of cotton wrapped around several times until I could no longer see the ss wick through it.

So in preparation of my GTUS build vid I made a new Mesh/Cotton hybrid wick...using Bluegrass's method...if you are a visual learner, I hope this helps...
