Hey all,
NEWS UPDATE - Flower and Zoom Zoom will be going to their NEW forever home on Sunday, they will not leave from there either, it is another rescue that a friend of mine runs and she will not adopt them out because they have been through so much already...............YEAH they Have a wonderful forever home, I am so excited for them.
Another News update- I went shopping with all the monies that were gifted to the shelter/rescue and we were able to get 60# of food which is much more than I hoped for-so than you everyone.
I am so grateful to you who have wanted to help with the fuzzies food situation. Normally I wouldn't even have the guts to ask for help. But this year has been especially tight since I have only worked less than 3 months this whole year due to two accidents, both had be off for approximately 6 months and there was only like 2 months in between them. I know this time of year is very tight for most of us and that is why I am so grateful for the help. I understand wanting to help and the important decisions about whether you can or not. I am just grateful to have so many good people here who even think of helping and maybe you can't right now, I understand that too.
I told pm2006 that I would tell everyone who my ferrets are and their stories. Short and Sweet I promise.
Bugz- HI, my name is Bugz and I will turning 6 years old in Feb. I am a sable in color, never been really hefty, I am more of a well built but on the skinny side. I moved here to northern lower Michigan with Lori, Michelle and Cassi back in December, 2005. I have lost everyone I ever cared about, especially my bestest buddy Sprite. Sprite fought the old girls off for me, so I could join the group. Sprite was everything to me and he passed away August of 2009 from numerous tumors. Anyway, my other male friends just passed away this past summer, first Pepper, I loved to play with him and then his bestest buddy Kip. Kip was very healthy and he passed away from a broken heart. Kip and Pepper were brothers, were bought together and raised together for 5-6 years. They both died within 3 months of eachother. So I presently live with two girls and sometimes my mom, Michelle, let's me play with Marcus but he is like 2 years old and can really out run me, but when it comes to wrestling I can still can hold my own.
He is turning into my friend. I suffer from Insulinoma and I have a few episodes a month where my blood sugar drops really low and then I drool allot and walk from side to side instead forward, I also am developing cataracts. When My blood sugar drops I have to have honey or corn syrup brushed onto my gums so I get sugar really fast and then I am fine.
DOOK DOOK that's my saying thanks for helping us and Michelle
KC-Hey There everyone my name is KC. yep just those letters, I love living here at WFFR, i came along right after Sprite's last girl passed away and he got really depressed and frustrated without the girls around so both me and Twilight were purchased to help Sprite come out of his funk. I am an amazing case though. I lost hair around my neck and chest (not from my tail) and my vulva got really big - so Michelle marked me as an adrenal ferret - then about a month ago my vulva went down to normal size and Michelle consulted many many ferret people including Vets and asked their opinions about what happened. It seems no one really understands what happened because with out treatment my hair started to come back and my vulva went back down to normal size. AMAZING everyone said no one knows why? so I may be getting "free" research medication Yeah. Medication that normally costs 100.00 a pop will be free cause no one knows why what happened with me happened. I am the alpha of my very small group. Sprite and I used to lead a group of 7 but now we are down to 3 and I still am in charge, even when I don't feel good. I am a crazy girl who loves to pounce on humans, dogs and other ferrets. THANKS for helping us !
Twilight - Hi my name is Twilight, I am 4 years old and have had several massive tumors growing in me for the last 2.5 years. I really didn't even get to enjoy myself as a pup, because I always had pain and bit everyone. When Michelle came to petstore and wanted to see me, the clerk told her I bit, she said "so, let me see her please"
When I was picked up by Michelle I really tried hard not to bite, so I went home with her. I didn't bite her until we got home. She let me explore the car while we drove 2.5 hours north to home. I have always been a brat, I know I am a brat and I love being a brat. I have naked since last spring and I have had to deal with being naked, unfortunately. I will continue to get into things and be a brat, until I die - which probably won't be too long now. I am very skinny as is what happens when a ferret has the last stages of adrenal, I love ferretone and michelle's soup (that is what makes me the happiest) I really don't like other ferrets unless they are big and can keep me warm, then I just try to beat them up but usually they just lay on me and make me squeek. I am a big cry baby when other ferrets get ahold of me, I usually start it though, it's just the way I am. THANKS FOR HELPING US!! I am loud when I want to be.
Flower and Zoom Zoom
Hi there all you wonderful people come here so we can attack your legs, we love to take a running start and then jump and grab onto people's legs. We love chicken and turkey baby food for a treat and when we hear that jar lid pop we come a running and look up at Michelle with our most pitiful look we can muster and then we gobble down whatever she puts in front of us. We came from a huge rescue of over 800 ferrets in southern Ohio back in 2008. We were approximately 9mo and 6 mo respectively at that time. We both had never been handled by people before so we bit Michelle and Lori horrifically. But we are now lovers not biters. We love other MALE ferrets but not females and they have to have been breeder ferrets at one time or another. We like the huge males that come from breeding and being fixed late in life. Anyway, Zoom Zoom gets along with any ferret, but me FLOWER I hate other females, they are going to take my friendship with Zoom at least that's what I think. Flower and Zoom Zoom are up for adoption. They are both fixed but still have their scent glands that they use when they are excited.
DOOK DOOK DOOK DOOK (are we excited yet?) oh good ----------------------POOF POOF POOF!!
Thanks for helping us out.
Marcus and Zeva
Hi y'all good people. Marcus here, I decided to tell you my story first after all I am the Male and I should always go first (that is what he thinks too-especially when eating). From the time I was purchased from pets and things in Kalkaska, MI I was kept outside in a rabbit hutch with chicken wire under my feet and I ate rabbit pellets. That was for the first 9-12 months of my life. Then I was rescued by HANDDS and given to WFFR. The CEO of HANDDS is deathly allergic to us (ferrets) and that is why I ended up at WFFR (Warm Fuzzies Ferret Rescue). That was March of 2010. I am coming up on a year at WFFR. When I got to the rescue I weighed a little over .7# and now after months of a special diet (highly digestable) and medicine everyday 2x a day for the last 6 months. I weigh in at a hefty 3.5# but I still have continual ........, my vet thinks it comes from a section of intestine that was injured due to the high fiber diet I was on when eating rabbit chow and timothy hay. Side note from Michelle: Ferrets are strict carnivores they have no cecum in their intestines (that's where you and I and herbivores break down fiber). So we think I have IBS and since I hate taking medications (I mean I sling my head and get rid of as much as I can and aim for the person giving it to me). I absolutely HATE oral medication. I have had ........ since day one here at WFFR, the special diet cost about $7.00 a pound but if I don't have it, I start to vomit every where also. So I am considered a special needs ferret.
Zeva - Hi my name is Zeva and this will be short and sweet, I came to the rescue about 3 days after WFFR had to have Sprite euthanized due to his condition. I look and act just like him, I was alone in the cage for along time, but now I have Marcus, he is a good boy but long winded. I belonged to someone who didn't want me any more (they didn't know I love to give kisses) and came to WFFR and love it here, lot's of out of cage time and wonderful "special" food just for Marcus and I. I love to play and offer love to anyone who asks for it even the dogs.
I am a dew and Marcus is black and sable. He loves me way more than I love him, but we are also up for adoption and hope that Marcus' bowel problems stop soon. We will be adopted together if all things go right. I am also about 2 years old. THANKS FOR HELPING US OUT AND MAMA MICHELLE, SHE"S THE BESTEST.
So those are the stories of the ferrets we have left. The first three are hospice ferrets, meaning they will not be adopted out or given away..
That's my life right there, well usually, when I am not taking care of my mom. We also have 3 rescued dogs, All poodles.
I got ahold of my work after being off for more than 6months and they scheduled me for 40 hours next week, what a wonderful thing.....................................I am so Happy.
We had gone down to 5 ferrets and last sunday Flower and Zoom were returned bringing our numbers back to 7. But that number is down from the 37 we had in the summer of 2007 and we had 23 the summer of 2008 and 13 the summer of 2009 and this past summer we were at 11. So every year they continually decrease which is good, because at the end of this year we are closing the shelter doors. We will still attempt to adopt out the ones that are adoptable but we will not be taking in any others. We are closing to due to a lack of funding and we have sunk as much as $8000.00 every year in to the rescue of our own monies, very hard to do when one person isn't really working.
That's my story and their stories. Thanks for considering helping us, every little bit helps. 10- little bits and we have a 35# bag of food, that will last at least 4 months, probably more.
Thank you for everything I so appreciate all of you.
Happy holidays
Michelle
Add: after I get the food home, I will take pictures Sunday of what happens when you give a bag of food to a ferret or mulitple ferrets and will post them here later for all to see to thank you for your donations of helping us to survive a little bit longer.
