The right Q-tip for the job...

I use q-tips a lot - I am sure most of you do especially with cleaning and while they are absorbent and great their shape has left a lot to be desired. Many find them too big to fit inside little connector areas and such. I am sure many of you have seen this but I got a ton of PM's after I mentioned these in a post in anther forum so thought I would share here for those that haven't.

I started using the Johnson&Johnson Child Shaped Q-tips when I first saw them out on the shelf at the local drug store when I went for my normal supply. I find being able to get the small part down in the connector area of batteries and the vaporizer part really a good fit and with the fluffier part it cleans the threads at time time. The larger then normal fluffier part is extra absorbent so its great for wiping the moisture off the plastic tanks and so on. And when I need just a regular shaped q-tip for whatever reason pulling the fluffier part off is pretty easy and there you have a regular q-tip.

Yeah, the fluffy high-quality q-tips don't work well for me, if I try to peel off any of the cotton I wind up with a half-naked stick. What I have found that works well are those cheapie q-tips that you often get in a hotel toiletries kit along with the little bottles of shampoo and lotion. They're not much good for the use for which they are provided (kind of like sticking a matchstick in your ear, which is enjoyable in it's own right), but they work well for this...:)

I have a roll of paper towels right by my desk...
And almost every time I'm going to charge a battery or change clearos, I shove a little corner of a paper towel into the battery threads, and twist it around. Seems to work OK... Never even tried QTips, cause they seemed like they'd be too big.

I DID get some pipecleaners though - they are great for getting any juice out of the center hole of a clearomizer when refilling. It's done a lot to eliminate gurgles. The pack was cheap - plus I snipped them all into like 2-inch lengths, since that's all I need, so I have like a gazillion mini-pipe cleaners now.

I realize this is an old thread, but wanted to offer specialty "hobby" swabs, available from tamiyausa.com. They have triangular and conventionally shaped swabs in a variety of smaller sizes. I use regular Q-tips, plus three sizes of the tamiyausa swabs in my everyday maintenance. They work great, and the 87104 size goes right down the air shaft on most tanks. The triangular ones fit the space around the firing pin in a 510 connector.

Chipotle.
Those are cool looking q-tips but I rarely find myself using anything but Chipotle napkins...I'm there often enough to have amassed a decent supply of napkins that only keeps getting bigger. I keep a stack in my vape gear box specifically for dealing with juice, twist a corner to a point and it works just great.

Those baby Q-Tips are good especially for bigger holes. I've used the cotton from them to make wicks in an "emergency". If I don't have Q-Tips around I've used a stick like a lollipop stick with a paper towel corner pulled over it.

Yep, besides paper towels, I've found Q-tips and pipe cleaners to be indispensable tools for making things simpler, quicker and easier. I get the big cheap bags of the extra big and fluffy pipe cleaners like they have at craft stores. You can fold them to the desired thickness and use them in conjunction with paper towels or loop them around outside threads and twist clean. They're really versatile.

You can't fit a Qtip inside the walls of a protank1 and I'm assuming some other attys also without having to flatten with a pair of pliers. On one of my Fasttech orders I came across these Mini Cleaning Brushes and they fit inside the walls so you can actually scrub the protank clean, as a added bonus the brush fits into almost all my driptips so you can get the cooties out. Fasttech has some nifty other products other than ecig related. These are nice heavy long tweezers that work great and nice and pointy.
I gained a whole new respect for the Qtip since using its swab for my first refurbished protank head, those first hits with cotton I'll never forget and nor ever look back.
I raise my glass to the Qtip :toast:
