the Russian - leaking from fill valve, please help if you can

I have a Russian full-size original RBA and have loved it. Just recently, I've been using a metal syringe to use the fill port to fill it. I think I may have ruptured the gasket inside that flaps open and shut for the use of the port. No matter what I do or how I fill it now, the device leaks juice out of its fill port. The vacuum isn't getting established. It slow drips out. And if I flip it upside down after filling, and juice pours out of the top. Sad day.

Can I do anything to get this working like it should, or am I screwed? I don't even see how I could replace the gasket because I can't see into there.

Anyone run into this before? I was researching similar issues and plumbing tape was suggested...maybe I can place that over the fill hole on the bottom of the tank, if not on the outside, and go back to top filling a small amount of juice? I don't know.

Here is a thread about the fill port on a 3.1 which I think is the same. Possible cleaning in hot water to get the gunk out of that area will resolve the problem.
