I see a benefit to our smoking cousins* in all this. When the ANTZ went after secondhand vapor, they made a big mistake. Not only is there no proven danger from secondhand vapor, but now the debate is starting to encompass the truth or lie about secondhand smoke. So what the ANTZ have done is wake up the smokers, who have been (to my mind) too accommodating about the restrictions on their actions and the villification of them as people.

*In a nutshell: I have nothing against smokers or smoking; I have never believed the lies about secondhand smoke; I am glad smokers are starting to speak up for themselves. I wish I had been more vocal and less accommodating when I was a smoker.

I think a lot of us feel that way. As the vilification was coming down, I was just too preoccupied with the rest of life to be concerned. In fact, I'm not so sure the majority of vapors are not still there. Why fight government bans in government buildings, why fight bans in indoor locations why fight outdoor bans in parks etc. It's the little steps that are so critical in controlling a minority of the population and I see it happening here. We already have a lot of vapors that support this action. At least until they get started getting taxed unreasonably, get unrealistic insurance rates and barred from housing and jobs because they can'y pass a cotinine test.

I personally have no problem at all with a proprietor not allowing smoking or vaping in their business. I think most businesses would do that to improve their bottom line. I do have a problem with government stepping in, particularly in the adult entertainment industry. If a bar owner wants the smoking clientele, he should be able to attract that clientele. I donb't smoke anymore, but I'd rather have a drink with smokers than with non-smokers, far less pretentious.
