I couldn't resist finding out for myself the effect of an ultra-sonic jewelery cleaner on the steeping process so I went out to a local B&M that does short-order mixing and got a PG/VG of 20/80. The liquid was darker in color on the top and faded to nearly clear at the bottom. You could look through the bottle and it was sort of like looking at a paved road on the horizon during the summer heat. You could see the light refract through the different layers and currents of ingredients. So, I put the 10mL plastic bottle in the middle of my cheap $30.00 ultra-sonic cleaner and added hot tap water but not so much the the e-liquid bottle would float. Ran the device for six minutes and voilà! Smooth, even color with no apparent refraction when peering through the bottle. Tasted steeped to me. Any others here negate steep time with devices?

Whenever I DIY a new flavor - it looks precisely as you described. If it is a first run I MUST taste it ASAP - well, because I am NOT patient and I want to know if my handiwork is delicious or wretched straight away.

Step 1 - I shake the crap out of it
Step 2- Microwave 5 times in 2-3 second bursts and shake the crap out of it between each blast
Step 3 - Shake the crap out of it again
Step 4 - Drip it!

It really works. I need to get an ultrasonic because I am convinced combining the 2 will be even better. It still ages and melds more - noticeably melded flavor and more saturated/oxidized color. But it does certainly make it "testable" with a decent standing point of where its at and if it will be good or not.

It was probably more of a placebo effect at work as most shops who do speed steeping are doing for two or more hours.

Sorry but the visual difference is dramatic. Plus, the cleaner I use gets pretty warm. There are two things happening to mix it better. Molecules spread with heat. The ultrasonic is making those things "dance". Separating them even more.
