If I twittered I would...

Seriously, the Surgeon General is asking for our stories via Twitter?
The real and actual Surgeon General of the United States?

Our stories exceed the limit allowed by Twitter.
It's hard to shrink that much good news into however many Twit characters.

If it's not just another twitter hoax - we had one a few weeks ago - he's asking about "smoke-free" stories, not specifically 'vaping' stories. One would think that there would be more than 2 entries for a google search of "U.S. Surgeon General [HASHTAG]#StoryForChange[/HASHTAG]" - one foreign/'translate this page' although Clive Bates is noted in the blurb....

I did it on FB and tagged it. It was my short testimony on quitting smoking. Basically, current alternatives failed, vaping works and I am down to a 10th of my nic intake. My doc was happy for me for using something far less damaging.

Don't forget to put the tag at the end "[HASHTAG]#StoryForChange[/HASHTAG]"

If you are writing a few paragraphs...consider also tagging for #NotBlowingSmoke #VapingSavedMyLife

Surgeon General is a political position and as such, no sincerity should be attached.
If he's actually asking for citizen input on a matter it likely means 'they've' decided what they're going to do and are looking for an indication of where they might find the most support for that decision.
I'd like to be wrong on this, but it smacks of 'curtain-twitching--101'

It's real. There's a tweet about it on the main Surgeon General page.
Surgeon General | SurgeonGeneral.gov
However, an earlier tweet referred people to this page of nauseating FUD about e-cigs.

Actually it's worded "tobacco-free", which covers up one of the biggest ANTZ lies of all time, the alleged dangers of snus or chewing tobacco. Both of which have a risk profile similar to vaping. It was really sad to see a tweet from someone who said "Good thing I stopped dipping and am vaping, otherwise I'd have mouth cancer and lose my jaw".

EDIT: I forgot to mention an interesting article by Brad Rodu, where he summarizes a study that showed Snus is equally effective as nicotine gum in helping smokers quit, which was funded by the National Cancer Institute.

It's not how long the story is, it's how many people have a story to tell. The more people the better, strength in numbers, not words. @spacekitty nailed it: "I smoked for X years, quit X years ago, because I started vaping".

I look at it slightly different. It was a bold move for the Surgeon General, which he didn't have to do. He's collating all the tweets and sharing something on [HASHTAG]#TransformationTuesday[/HASHTAG], which is a before/after hashtag. (people growing up, losing weight, etc) IMO, this bold move has put the SG in a tight spot. He's either going to piss off the CDC/FDA/TC/ANTZ or thousands (and quickly growing) of the vaping public who have spilled their guts out about how important vaping is and how it's saved their lives. I guess we'll need to wait and see what [HASHTAG]#TransformationTuesday[/HASHTAG] brings.

From a speech he made, April 22, 2015:

Commissioning and Change of Command for the 19th Surgeon General of the United States | SurgeonGeneral.gov
Over the past four months, I have been traveling across America – and even around the world – to listen to our people and our neighbors talk about extraordinary innovations that are improving health around the country. But everywhere I go – from Alabama to Abu Dhabi, I’ve also heard about roadblocks that are keeping us from being the people we were meant to be, from achieving our best health.

And I want to lead us in overcoming those barriers.

First, we will combat misinformation with clear communication. Whether e-cigarettes or the latest diet fad, marijuana or the measles, we will give the American people the best information so they can make good decisions for their own health.

In a world in which a lie can spread around the planet at the speed of a keystroke, we will harness the power of new technologies so that the truth has a fighting chance.

Regarding "e-cigarettes", four months is a long time to be delaying putting out correct information and disowning the lies the government has been telling and funding. How many more lives need be destroyed by the misinformation campaign?
I guess we'll need to wait and see what [HASHTAG]#TransformationTuesday[/HASHTAG] brings.

We'll have to wait and see how seriously he takes promises he makes.

I thought originally it was 'smoke-free' but, whatever, he's not asking about vaping as your title suggests.

It may not be what he was looking for but from the comments I read on facebook as of right now they are all about e-cigarettes. Now we have to wait and see what his reaction to that might be.

I think the common person might confuse "tobacco-free" and "smoke-free", but not a doctor and certainly not the US Surgeon General.
