It says on the site that shipping for a tip is $1.25,
but when I put one in the cart it shows $4.99 for shipping?

I'll go double check the software, i was playing with it this morning trying to add on international shipping rates. Any order under 31.00 should have 1.35 first class shipping. Orders over 31.00 it goes up to 4.99 for Priority mail shipping with tracking and insurance.
Ok, i just checked it and it's working now. Maybe try the empty cart button and empty and try adding just one and see if that works now for you.
I just ordered one of each of these beauties and it charged me $4.99 shipping as well.
That's because as David said any order over $31.00 is $4.99 shipping and 2 of the tips run $35.98 so your shipping was right. Now if you do 2 separate orders then you save $2.50 so just split them up next time
With the 4.99 shipping, there is an advantage, it gets shipped priority mail with tracking and insurance, so you'll get it quicker than first class . Also, I don't mark the postage up at all, it costs me 5.00 to send it via priority mail small flat rate box, so no postage gouging

I'm not adverse to metal, but stainless steel just doesn't match the rest of my PV A delrin small hole whistle tip would be grand!

I'm probably way i the miniority on this one, but I prefer tips made of a softer material. I can bite down on them or knock them against my teeth. I like the rubberized 801 tips a lot except for how easily they pop off when I don't want them to and that you have to pop them off to drip. A rubberized drip-whistle-tip that stayed firmly in place would be perfect for me.

You might want to look into this product Loctite Black Color Guard Tough Rubber Coating | 34979 | Loctite It's for putting a rubber coating on tools. I've thought about trying it myself and I think it would solve your issue.
