Hello!

I'd like to try out modding. I came across this box mod at madvapes.

Variable Volt Box Mod Kit

I was curious if anyone could give me any tips or how to improve on this device I'm thinking about making.

I also noticed they have this.

Battery Voltage Indicator

could I somehow incorporate that into the box mod so the device can tell me what voltage I'm at?

Thanks! :D

I just build a mod using the Madvapes regulator and meter (I put it into my Motorola VV mod...I've been abusing hard it for days and it hasn't broke yet)...those regulators get hot so I would (if you have the room) use a bigger heat sink than just the metallic tab on the circuit board (I used a thin 1"x1/2" stainless steel shim I cut out of a piece of something I had lyin' around), mount the regulator as per instructions then carefully slide your shim between the back of the black IC chip and the board...heat kills and this will go a long way to making your hard work last. As far as the meter goes, if you're looking at the face of the meter (pins facing down) the furthest left pin is the neg and the one next to it is pos (the rest of the pins aren't used)...you can just attach it across your atty connections (optional, intercept the pos wire (or neg, doesn't matter) with a small tactile switch)...that way you can slightly unscrew your atty, (press the tact switch if you put it in), adjust your volts, screw the atty back in and ta da...*the meter doesn't glow every time you press the fire button if you put the tact switch in, or you can not switch it if you like all that metery goodness, it's your mod, be proud of it take pics and show us when you're done...best of luck.

Just wanted to add, stainless isn't the best thermal conductor to dissipate heat, if you have any copper or aluminium even better, just make sure it's perfectly flat (don't just beat a penny with a hammer, you want maximum contact with the back of that regulator)...I just used it cause my tin snips and the what ever it was was lyin' right there and I'm pathetically lazy...

to use linear regulators, such NPC 630 A from madvapes, is not a good ideea. You waste a lot of power on heating.
much better is a step-down switching regulator like lm2576 or lm 2596.On ebay you find a lot of module with this IC.

But the best is mp2307, you find some kis-33 module on ebay. This IC have around 85 to 95% efficiency.Personal i tested both.

Thes two can give you ideas and if you don't want PT just leave that part out.

Yeah, what BJ said :D.

But really, the EASIEST VV mod you could put together is with one of the eBay DC-DC converter modules - they are inexpensive, all components are already put together on a board; only connections to make (different from a 3.7V mod) is V+in/V-in and V+out/V-out. eBay is full of these converters (check this out); just be sure if you get any to check that a MINIMUM of 2A current can be achieved. I've bought a few of these and none took longer than 3 weeks to get.

Although there is the SWADJ3 - for $25

Trying to picture this, but you would run the wire from the button to the meter to the atty connector? How exactly would the wiring for the tactile switch work from the button to the atty without turning on the led?

New here, trying to figure this out.

Dang, saw this the other night and didn't mark it; been searchin' and searchin' and finally found it again

Use this circuit, just put it right before the wires going into your atty connector.

Your ACDC mod looks cool. So, let me see if I have the wiring flow correct:

Power sources into toggle
OUtput goes to button and button output goes to board input
board output goes to atty connector

So with another toggle for voltage output on/off with voltage led

Power sources into toggle
OUtput goes to button and button output goes to board input
board output goes to atty connector
board output goes to toggle for led
led toggle goes to led

Sorry, I know its not a fancy chart, but I am still learning this stuff!!!

I use a (on off on) spdt slide switch. The first (-) pin on the meter to common (-), the second pin on the meter (+) to center pin of the slide switch, one side pin of the slide switch to the (+) battery, the other side pin of the switch to the (+) after the regulator and before the trigger switch. This way I can ck Battery voltage and regulator voltage individually and in the center position it is off and not flashing all the time.

I have been wanting to get into modding, but have been dragging my feet on it. This has inspired me to go ahead and try it. I have some light wiring experience from my days working in an arcade with a service repair center, but it has been ages. So I am going to get my parts list together and get some orders out for stuff. Any good suggestions on boxes?

I call this procrastinitus, :D. It's a dread affliction that I have also. Although I believe having to deal with a KLS* exacerbates this condition.
