Lots of little kiddies running around our house so all juices are locked in gun safe. While washing protanks and coils this morning I was thinking about summer time and kids running around and how to keep the smallest from getting into parts. Thought about a box but no circulation.. then I remembered when I built my egg incubator I used a old computer fan for air circulation. Thinking I'll do the same in a box for drying parts. I like having them in the kitchen so I'll be hunting a box that will go with our décor and making a drying box this week :)

    Why are you "drying coils"?!?

Both water and alcohol are e-liquid soluble. So clean it, and then use it.

All you do by leaving coils out to dry is cut their service life in half (it's called "oxidation")
Once you have heated Kanthal wire it will oxidize (rust) if left dry. A drop of e-liquid will prevent that.

Ok a little confused now :) all I've read so far recommends drying coils at least 24 hours after washing or dry burning. Many have said air drying is better so that's why I'm letting them dry.

I never dry mine. I blow the coils dry. Refill and after a few puffs it is all good to go.

I believe people are concerned about the minerals/metals in tap water or just a watered down vape for a few puffs. I just figured if you let air dry the water evaporates but the minerals and metals will be left behind in the wicking material anyway.

If that works for you GK... just keep doin' it. :)

Kids running around here as well. Personally, I use Mrs. Kodiak's high-dollar, nuclear-powered, gazillion watt blow dryer. (It's mounted on some kind of "stick" for hand's free use). Everything is dry in just a minute. And yes, you can fire a coil/wick when it's damp. But I do like a dry wick so I don't have to fight the water so long before it juices up proper.

If I need my wick dry...NOW...after the vodka bath, I just mount the head into a base, put it on a battery and fire it until it's dry...takes like 2 seconds.

Just way too much over thinking in this thread...

    Chill out!

Just put them back in and use it. (a couple of taste less toks and all is fine).

And what is wrong with putting them in a cup and put them on the top cupboard or just put them in a toaster oven and it is done.

    Cheers

All good ideas. Just DON'T put them in the microwave though!

Bcuz there is nothing funner than vaping the water off a wet wick until it's replaced by your liquid.

Dunno - my cleaned coils go right back into use. Not like they hang around for weeks after cleaning. I keep one or two Kangers in rotation and clean and use them until they poop out.

As far as drying them goes: I don't know how "moderne" blow dryers are made, but the one in my bathroom had a "diffuser" piece that fits on the end. (It's just something like a flared cup.) I just set the blow dryer on the counter pointing up, toss the coils in there, put it on low - and that dries anything stuck in there in less than three minutes. Done. The diffuser attachment is just a handy way of keeping them contained.

I don't have that problem, but I don't really leave stuff out the dry particularly; when I need to wick a coil, dryburning dries it out. The other parts just dump into one of those ziploc type plastic food containers left open; the coil pieces themselves with the exposed coil are just left in a cup of water to soak.

Is cleaning them even necessary? I just use a coil for two or three days de wick and dry burn, add a new wick and vape on. Recoiling maybe every week or so? Depends on my mood. Sometimes ill take a coil out early if it disappoints me

It is for those still using the silica wick.
For those rewicking with cotton, it's unnecessary because you're changeing the wick anyway.

Probably not but I prefer to get as much use out of each coil that I can and to clean them each day. I tried just keeping them in like some do and find I notice a flavor change I don't care for when they aren't cleaned.

Nothing at all, my brain just always seems to go to something that involves tinkering...any excuse to try making something :)
