Hey there, glad to be a part of this community!

Anyways, I am completely new to vaping (never tried) and have done a few days worth of intensive research/reading. Still, there are many things that are just beyond me (and a very vague google search), so I figured that I'll just post my questions here.

As per the title, I'm thinking of getting a cheap mod, the Nemesis Mech Clone to start off my vaping experience. And I really want to couple it with the SMOKTECH TFV4 Sub Ohm Tank which looks incredible.

But I've read around and realised that the resistance of the entire setup is very important for safety, so will this particular combination work well?

Apparently, these switch magnets for the Nemesis Mod can help with the fit. How exactly? And are they necessary?

Thank you for reading! Cheers.

*edit, my links were removed automatically, which is fine. Is there any way that I can link more product information? (I'm buying the aforementioned items from fasttech..)

Hi!

I don't use magnets on my Nemesis... but lots of people do. I never liked them, so I put the spring back in.

If the smok uses 0.2ohm coils (?) that's too low for me... and too close for comfort (I'd say) even if they worked. You'd be up towards 90w. For that kind of power, safety is paramount.

I don't see a use in getting a mech for the tfv4; better to get a regulated mod like an istick, mvp, sigelei, snow wolf.

a cheap mech is good for backup.

fwiw, I happen to have a cheap steel nemesis clone myself, and it happens to be my main vape nowadays because it happens to mate truehybrid to a 3d rda which I recently acquired.
otherwise i'd have been vaping with one of my astro telescopic mods.

the magnets I got for the nemesis are pretty fragile I would say.
one or two drops on the floor could break them while they're inside the mod.

First off, thank you all for your replies!!

If your on a budget Id rather see a Istick 100w then any mech mod to start with. I still think your getting ahead of yourself for just starting.
What are you looking to get from vaping?

I'd like to wean myself off the very expensive (in my country..) habit of smoking. I'm not really on a budget, but its pretty risky trying to ship these vapes into where I live, so I'd like to minimize the damage. Anyway, the whole set-up seems (deceptively?) simple enough though, just lotsa screwing around heh. Can you go into more detail how mech mods are not ideal for beginners?

Ah from what I gather, the magnets are to replace the spring, in ensuring a tight fit and connection? Also, do lower ohm coils require more power, and you are trying to say that the Nemesis might be unable to handle them? And yes, the smok coils are 0.2 and 0.15 ohm.

Will 0.4ohm coils work better? There's an older model that SMOK carries, the VCT X-2 Dual Coils.

I really do think you'd do better with a regulated mod than a mech. For one thing, a mech really needs a RTA or RDA. Building coils is about the only way to adjust them. And you aren't likely to get enough power with that.

I see.. Was thinking of getting replaceable tanks instead of rebuildable ones because of the hassle. Will I need to replace the cotton myself even if I get replaceable tanks? Will I need the replacement wire thingy as well?

Once again, thank you all for the help.

How can I tell if a certain tank will be safe (in terms of voltage, wattage and resistance. are they even the same? I'm pretty bad at physics) for a certain mod (regulated or not)? This info will help very much with my shopping :D

Thank you for the help!

Oh; well if you are in a place where it's a problem to get stuff, a mech is definitely a good idea.
Get a mech with a kick, and I would suggest you get an rda.

higher power coils are usually lower ohms.
a mech mod like the nemesis is just a container, it is the battery that does the work.

get a rebuildable and some 28 or 26 gauge kanthal.
the coils will run for months;; you will just need to dryburn and rewick every few days.

If you keep your ohms over 1 ohm should be good.

I'm vaping a 2.5 ohm coil on my nemesis right now.

You will need to replace the heating element and wick from time to time in all vape gear. With rebuildables you can make it yourself and save some money. With the replaceable, you will have to buy them already assembled from the manufacturer. But with a mech mod, a rebuildable is nearly a requirement as changing the coil Ohms is the only way to adjust wattage, If you wish to use replaceable type tanks, I really do suggest a regulated mod of some kind so you can change wattage by pushing a button or twisting a dial. The switch magnets in the Nemi are to replace the switch spring. There's no real electrical benefit etc. Where they come in handy is they don't wear out and let the switch collapse into contact with very low force. They are, however, fragile and can be broken, although they're fairly secure once installed. I do not recommend mechanical mods for beginners, but this is primarily because they want to coil them too low and blow themselves up by asking their batteries for more amps than they can safely deliver. If you do not have a thorough understanding of Ohm's Law and how the change in resistance of the coil affects amp loading in a (semi)contsant voltage battery, you have no business with a mech mod. Period. Not a problem, really: if you want to learn, I and many others will be happy to teach you. But lose the idea of a replaceable coil tank. A mekkie needs rebuildables.
