My son was driving home from work one night. He turned onto the road that leads to our house in our neighborhood and something caught his eye heading to the drain in the curb. Well, he came home with a ferret lol That was lovely because we have two parrots. He was very lovable but I had no clue how to care for one. I kept him on our back screened porch. I finally called a local ferret rescue and found out that they can't take the heat. I had been keeping him too warm. Anyway, I put him in the bath tub filled with cool water as instructed and was set to meet the rescue people in hours. The owners showed up in the nick of time! We could actually see their house from ours they lived so close. They were very happy to see the ferret and he was more happy to see them lol They said that the ferret had learned how to unlatch their screen door on their porch and that is how he got away. Strays always seem to find me and my son loves animals as much as I do :)

The first Ferret I ever saw was when I was younger. I was at a friends house and he ran up to the store when I first got there so I sit on his couch to wait. I was sitting there listening to the clock tick when this thing poked it's head over the end of the couch. Man I shot straight up, there was probably fingernail marks in the ceiling from me trying to hold on. I had never seen one before and all I saw was it's head It took off back under the coach and when my friend came back I was standing on the front porch. I said you got some creature or a demon from hell in that house. He laughed at me and said that's just my ferret. I said what the hell is a ferret. Anyway he showed me the whole thing. That was my introduction to ferrets.

LOL, 5C. They are really quite affectionate. The thing is that they have a gland that lets off an odor and they stink to high heavens unless that gland has been removed. I am not really an advocate of keeping exotic animals as pets. Some animals were just never meant to be kept in a house. Including parrots.

So many people get them thinking that they are pretty or cute. Never giving much thought to the time, energy and expense they are to actually own. I tell everyone that is even thinking of getting a parrot, it is like having a two year old for the rest of your life. You need babysitter if you go on vacation or they have to go with you ( I take mine or don't go) They will throw a tantrum if they don't get their way, are highly intelligent and never content to sit in a cage and be ignored for the day. They must be fed and bathed. Just like a two year old and they never grow out of it :)

I've owned 2 ferrets over the years. Very sweet, mischevious little characters. They sure can smell so it's important to clean up after them daily. I bathed them often as well. Lots of work, but lots of fun also.

Buwhahaha! Great minds..... think alike :D

Happy BDay GoldieMom !!!

She was supposed to be my son and as soon as they put her in my arms, she grabbed my heart and has never let go :) *please excuse the tears on the keyboard*

She was to be named after my dad, as I was his. She always says if she was a boy she would have been... John 3-16.

Wharf, my son was the first boy born to my family in twenty seven years. He was named after my grandfather ( a fairly famous Irishman) :) I did not know if he would be boy or girl back then even though DH kept saying if not a boy, he was throwing her back LOL! My mom was in shock when the nurse brought him out of the OR (c-section) and she saw that he was a boy. She thought that there was no way we would ever have another boy in our family. HA! I showed her :D

Very cool story Salem! I thought my first born would be a boy....was sure of it in fact (must have been the umbilical cord in the ultrasound). When she arrived, we only looked at her face and the doc said "well do you want to know what you had?" My ex said, "We know, it's a boy!" Doc said, "you better look again son!" I sat straight up in that bed and had to take a gander for myself. hahaha

And she's ALL GIRL!!!! :)

I really liked him and he lived outside his cage. The cage was big enough for me to get into if I could of fit through the door. He just wasn't good around others. Very dominant. He used to fly over to me when I sat on the coach and flop over on his back. Then we would have a little boxing match while he was laying there. He rode around the house on my shoulder. But I couldn't give him 100% attention 24hrs. a day so he would get very loud. African greys are the best and nicest parrots to get. Easiest to train too. I wouldn't recommend anyone getting an Amazon. They are one person birds.
