Gotcha, thanks. Luckily on my car, the ac belt is only for the ac compressor, separate belts for the alt. and ps. There is a ton of slack in the ac belt, even tho it looks fairly new. The compressor will spin by hand but the belt is not tight enough to turn. That's why I doubt the tensioner bolt will tighten any more. But ya never know...as many times as it's been bounced off curbs.

TT, When I first heard about the explosion in TX, I thought, "Oh no, I hope it's no where's near our TT!" Then I remembered your posts and quickly breathed a sigh of relief. I am so thankful that everyone pays into your "sociable securities" so we wouldn't be worrying about you being anywhere near that fertilizer plant! That and the fact that you are from YEAST Texas, and not West. Whew!

So sorry for all those involved though. :(

Houston, it's a GO on the ac in the Hyundai Bucket...repeat, it's a go!! The tension bolt was just barely screwed in so the tensioner wasn't even close to touching the belt. I hand tightened it as much as I could, but I didn't look for a metric wrench to crank it down. Half inch was a little too big and 7/16 was a little too small. Turned the ac on and ta daa!! Not even a squeal in the belt :)

Bad news is I'm leaking antifreeze. I can't tell right off which hose it is, but it's dripping at a pretty good rate. I'll look for my engine's diagram in a bit, but one or both of those hoses attach to the water pump, right?

John, my thoughts are with you today!

My thoughts are also with West, Tx.

Hey guys! I had a chance to back read a few pages..:) Fran your kitchen is huge. In a few years I am going to have our countertops replaced. Our oak cabinets are still beautiful. They are doing a great job on your kitchen...

I didn't watch the news about the explosion in Texas. I did read bits and pieces on FB. Very sad. :(

Bovina: I may have to hire you as my mechanic. :) Dh & I do the same. We always research online on cars and motorcycles. I have a virago 535 that I am ...... at. The thing sits over winter and dh does the winter protection on it...every frinking year the carbs are messed up....I think LD knows about cycles....any ideas???? The thing will run a few minutes then just die! I am tired of hauling the thing into the dealer. I told hubs just to sell the damm thing. My driving days are over. On the positive side he said I can drive his Goldwing Trike. I may take him up on the offer this year.

5C wishing you the best!

Good afternoon to all.

Good going, Bov. :thumb: Hope you can gets your leaks fixed without having to pay a lot. It is insane what it costs to pay a repairman of any kind. I know they have to make a living, but gee whiz.

Fran, you kitchen is going to be fantabulous.

Prayers for those poor victims and their families in TX.

Yeah, that was a terrible situation over there at West. I couldn't believe the destruction ... for example the front of that apartment complex blown away. I happened to be in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia in June of 1996 when that truck bomb went off and it looked just like that.... the destruction to buildings. But there was so much loss of life there in West and many, many injured people.

This, after the bombing in Boston and the school shooting in Massachusetts ... its all getting to be too much.

Oh, and West is about two hours from our place.

Hoping Dee or one of our other machanic-y types can enlighten me a bit. Here is a pic of the 1.6L engine in a 2002 Accent, but should be pretty much the same as mine. See that cluster of hoses under the plug wires? There are 3 of them, one you can't really see in this pic. Are they attached to the engine block? Mine is the bottom hose and the leak is on the engine side, not the radiator side. Water pump is on the left side so I'm guessing it's not the pump that's leaking. Radiator is full, overflow is at the low mark on a cold engine.

Your year and engine size? 2002 Accent 1.6L, 2003 Accent 1.6L,... There are a lot of online manuals with diagrams, to pick out the right part, and hoses are not too expensive if you can see that it's a rotted hose. It's all pretty much "buy the right part version, loosen clamps, remove old hose, put new one on, put clamps on". Readily available.

Thanks Mark, yes I've been looking at online manuals and the Hyundai forum. Mine is a '03 1.6L Accent. I don't have all the necessary tools to do the work myself, I was mainly wondering if the hoses on the engine side connect to any part that can be leaking, rather than one of the hoses. I see that I still have the factory clamps on the hoses rather than after market screw tightening clamps. I'm still going to take it to the shop appt. Monday, tell the mechanic about the leak, and let him know that I tightened the tension on the ac belt. If they don't have to replace that ac tensioner, that will save me about $70. I didn't know about the hose leak until I crawled under my car this morning. It's not leaking with the car not running, just when it is.

If the AC were leaking Bo it's hard to see because its a gas. It's usually a pin hole that they have to pressurize the system to find. AC hoses have a metal threaded end on them that are aluminum looking. I have to top mine every other yr.
Here is a diagram of your system and what the hoses look like.

I'm so glad your procedure is over 5c AND that DISH decided not to give you the run around. All in all a good day!

They tried but when I mentioned the WA. AG they relented. I think they are on thin ice with all the complaints they receive. Now I gotta find a provider that doesn't want your first born and control to do whatever they feel like doing.

Thank goodness DISH caved for you!! I've been following you and them on Facebook and gave you a cheer every time I read one of your posts! I laughed until the tears ran down my leg every time I saw them ask you to contact them in private lol. Glad your procedure is over too :)

Thank you for the diagram. My ac is not leaking freon, that was tested yesterday. It's full, with no leaks, and after I tightened the tensioner bolt this morning, it's working. I found a I was leaking antifreeze after I started my car to test the ac. I don't have all the proper tools, or a place to drain and flush the radiator to replace the hoses myself.
