Poor little Spike. Give him some cuddles from me please.
(((ElDee & Spike))) Oh no! Prayers for Spike heading your way for sure. Please let us know how he is when you can.
Bov, I just love your attitude. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!!! Between you and I, I'll bet we can make some KILLER lemonade girl! (((hugs)))
I bought a beautiful Orchid (I remembered the ice cubes TT!!!) today at Lowes. OMG it's gorgeous. I sure hope it does well in my care. Lord knows I'm not doing so hot with the succulents so far. Houseplants are holding up for the most part, and the hibiscus' are just beautiful. Cross your fingers for these orchids please.
Why are succulents so hard to care for??? Sheesh!
I am out for the night all.......hugs to the bunch of ya!
Tracy, on your orchids, 3 ice cubes every seven days. That's plenty!
Feed them once every two months by freezing Miracle Grow in an ice cube tray. Put three water ice cubes in the plant first and let them melt and then put in the three Miracle Grow ice cubes.
Keep your plant in the tallest, clear glass container you can find and it should give you at least three months of enjoyment if not longer.

Oh boy TT, I knew I should have just asked you first....the guy at Lowes said since it's a smaller orchid (I will try to post a pic later of them, yes them, I bought another one today) to only put in one ice cube every week, and he sold me some orchid plant food spikes to push down into the pot. I broke one in half and put it in two locations of the pot. Do you think that's not a good idea? Tall clear glass container? Sounds lovely!!! I guess I'm not done shopping for them yet!
Yeah, if the plants are small, one ice cube should do fine and I don't think the food spikes can hurt them.
I know you don't know this, but I lived in Venezuela for about seven years a long, long time ago (I'm so danged old - everything that ever happened was a long time ago LOL), but anyhow, some friends and I used to take excursions out into the jungle on the west side of the Orinoco River ... clear over to the headwaters of the Amazon. Lots of fun, had to build our own bridges and too many adventures to even try to relate here.
I used to see wild orchids in the jungle growing up the sides of trees and even for a Mr. Macho type like me I had to admire the beauty of those flowers and how they could survive in such a wild environment. Even today we keep some growing in the house.
Oh, and the thing about the tall, clear glass vases, they hold the humidity in and around the plant where it really needs it.
