Very busy at work, but getting the deck boards in, slowly. Hopefully I can take some time off tomorrow.
Looking at probably a bunch more concrete, set up a taper from the landing to the lawn level.It could also be done with dirt, but my concern is that there isn't enough time left in the season to really get grass established, a solid root system so it wouldn't wash out in the Spring. Good Morning All!! Happy Almost Labor Day Long Weekend!
Another 100 degree day here and I'm planning on doing a serious air conditioner inspection from the comfort of my recliner. Mark, I think my root system is well established on my recliner!

Mark down South Fall is grass planting season...Roots grow all winter long and will be fully established by Spring....Spring planted grass while often appearing robust often dies during the heat and drought periods of Summer due to a lack of an adequate root system... I'd consult with someone local with knowledge or just google it but I suspect the same to hold true in your area....
Around here the State plants Bahia Grass in the ditches...Known locally as the Crow's Foot as it shoots a long stem with a black Crow's Foot appearing seed pod...It readily seeds and spreads...Just try and cut it....Sharp blades and a nice,high powered mower????? Three or four passes.....
You may remember I repaired and widened my beach drive a month or so back...one pipe had sunken and became disconnected...I fixed the wayward pipe and added another for ease of getting the boat on/off the road...It's covered with dirt that I packed with the pick up....Since i was last here the City added gravel around some of the intersections where there were holes..Mostly where people are cutting the corner and causing ruts...Those goobers backed a fully loaded dump truck into my new drive...When they pulled out they skimmed the concrete retaining wall...Their tracks were 3/4 inches deep at least...3 whopping wheelbarrows to fill in deep....Had I seen that the sheet would have hit the fan big time...Good news is the pipe looks unaffected.....I was pondering ordering a load of gravel for my next project...I was worried about all that weight on my new drive....No need to worry about that any more.....

You're right -- a local guru lawn care guide says this is the right time for it, late August through early September. We still have plenty of good topsoil at home, so I'll schlep some over, give it a shot It certainly would be simpler than building new forms, gravel underlay,...

You are right on the Bahia grass El Dee. That grass will stay green through bad drought and just a little rain will bring it back to a full green again. It is a bit hard to cut though and you do need some sharp blades on your mower ... and sometimes it takes a couple passes to cut it even.
I have a lot of it in a couple of my pastures and the tractor with the bush hog does good on it if I keep the PTO revved up real good.

All this talk of work, I guess they call it Labor Day for a reason Got my spiffy new car door handle installed yesterday, along with mowing the yard. Still waiting on the cabin air filter to arrive in the mail.
Bahaia was what our lawn was when I had the house out in the boonies in Fl. With all of our rescue dogs, it stood up to the paw traffic very well. Ex did have to sharpen the mower blade quite often tho. I'm not sure what we have here in Katie's yard.

Sadly ..... I watched the Dallas - Houston game.
I could have used that time to watch re-runs of something worthwhile.
