Dee, I called it the wrong thing, it would be the valve cover gasket, and mine looks like this pic from the Hyundai Performance forum.

I wasn't known for much auto maintenance back in the day. I bought a new 86 1/2 Nissan king cab. I put 240K on it before the engine died and had changed the oil Maybe 10 times  I worked at the dealership and got everything for cost + 10. So I bought a new motor and had one of the mechanics put it in on the side.

He broke open the old motor and said he never had seen a engine soooo gunked up with sledge and crap. Told me if I had changed me oil on a regular basis it would still be running.

I told him if I had I'd have a decent running 240K PU, but the $$$ I saved on oil changes was enough to put in a Brand New engine :D

Bov, My ex hubs used to do the maintenance things on my car too. I hadn't had a flush and fill in 6 years, and not sure when he last did one before that. Eek!

hahaaha @ Wharf!!! That is some food for thought!

ElDee, You know your stuff! Rock on!

Fran, You know your stuff too!!!

I don't know enough about cars to do me a lot of good, but being a DIY'er by nature it's probably a good thing that I don't have a lot of tools or place to work on mine. Replacing that gasket sounds pretty easy, but my luck would be to get it apart and turn it into a major FUBAR. Hyundai spec says those valve cover bolts need to be only 7 to 10 ft lbs tight...torque wrenches I don't have, but know :) I used to sit at a standard and calibrate everything from inch lbs, to hundreds of ft lb torque wrenches all night.

Well 5....Local tv had NE/Pittsburgh...The Raiders score scrolled by and I mistakenly saw 19~13 their way...Just then a score alert flashed...We scored!!! I thought we were up 19~20.....Wrong answer Buckaroo....they had 49.....

Bov valve cover gaskets definitely leak oil....Not many I know whoop out a torque wrench on them though...Personally though I do when I can access all the bolts with one....

Sitting at the beach with the heat on!!! A little bathroom repair and a little fishing!!

El Dee, I hope you don't mind if I interrupt the thread for a moment, but I am doing DIY flavors and have been trying to track down a recipe for Purple Haze. You are the only source that I could locate when I did the search for one. Your post in May said that you had steeped your recipe and were about to try it, but I couldn't find anything additional. How did it turn out?

Marsh, Going strictly from memory.....8% Grape.....2% Earl Grey....2% Hypnotic....I think I mixed 60ml and while not an epic vape it disappeared...I've never had any other Purple Haze and just took a stab at it from what I'd heard others say about it....Tracy may have mixed some also and I'm sure she will chime in...I'd love to hear from anyone with a good PH recipe....

Lucky dog that I am....Once at a auction I picked up a three set of Snap On torque wrenches....1/4, 3/8 and 1/2...all are the dial type and very accurate....I got a couple of click type I purchased before I got the Snap Ons....Rocker covers on a Harley????? You best bet I used a torque wrench...

Back in my floor sweeping days I listened as my mentor described being able to feel the bolt threw whatever tightening apparatus you were using....devoloping a feel for what is actually happening....Hot Rods and wrecks I had a good handle on....Hot rodded Harleys??? That's a whole nuther level of tight....combined with loc-tite....wave lock washers....safety wire....Now I ride a factory built HD....Much easier on the mechanicals I tell yahhh....

Just last week I threw a gasket away that came with a transmission filter...it was new and undamaged...This delayed the job a couple of days as well...I'd ordered a gasket from Rock Auto...Made by Victor it was two layers of cork with a steel middle layer...The gasket's bolt holes have metal inserts that don't allow over tightening while allowing optimal compression of the gasket....The sucker don't leak either!!

Marshbunny,

The only thing I can add to what ElDee has told you above is that I wrote his recipe down while here at the pc, and the only other thing I noted was that he said, "the next time I think I will go with 8% grape, 3% Hypno, and 1% Earl Grey Tea" I haven't tried it yet, but have been meaning to.

I got stuck on straight Grape Juice for quite awhile, and recently I"m on a Cinnamon Roll kick.

Hope this helps ya some! :)
