Stopped in Best buy to check the price on stuffing a bit more ram into my computer. When I told the kid I need DDR 2 he laughedI told him he was welcome to foot the bill for a new rig, otherwise I'd find what I'm looking for on line. How sad is it that my cheap ... cell phone has more memory than my desktop!!
So...question for 5c or anyone else who knows. I have 4 x DIMM, dual channel slots that take DDR 2 800/667/533 sticks. Right now each slot has a 1GB stick. Do both channels have to match, or can I just get 2 x 2GB sticks for one channel. In other words, do all 4 slots have to match, or just each channel? I can't afford to replace all 4, and prolly shouldn't even spend the cash to upgrade 2. MB is 6 or 7 year old Asus Striker Extreme https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Striker_Extreme/
Bo you can run any combo you want on Ram. I have a PC with the same set up you spoke of. A larger video card will speed it up as video uses more processor than anything. Also set your desktop icons to small as they use more processor on start up than anything else. Just a few tips to speed it up a tad.

I have a decent vid card, upgraded that back last spring / summer to an Nvidia 650ti. I'm only having mem issues when I want to have music streaming and several windows open all at the same time I did some pricing and decided that it's going to go on the back burner. With DDR 4 and DDR 3 being the prime ram these days, you'd think the price on DDR 2 would be dirt cheap...not! Cheapest I found (of a brand I would trust) is $68 for 2x2GB from Tiger Direct. That's for Corsair's bargain brand. I went into msconfig and shut down some unnecessary start up items.

Thanks for asking Bo. It's getting better but it's still sewed shut. Blind in one eye and can't see out of the other.

I have three HDDS in this one and I use a little off all of them for memory. Photoshop uses a lot of memory and uses them for harded graphics. They only use it if they need it.

I got called out on some bizness...Finally grabbed 2 ratty cheeseburgers and some Cajun fries that left quiet a bit to be desired as well around 11:45...Hey they 'bout roll the streets up past 10...Beggars can't be choosers.....Hope the birds don't choke on those fries tomorrow.....
What was even nastier than those fries????? That dang menthol juice I purchased for my Cousin.....

Thanks for the link 5c, I'll read over it and see what I come up with. It also occurred to me to check my paging file and see what it's set at. I remember that I used to tweak it for gaming back when this rig was first built. It should be ok tho. Sorry you didn't get your stitches out, but as long as it's healing that's good news.
Dee, the streets get rolled up around here too. After about 11pm all you hear is squealing tires and the cops who chase them
