I know there's Boba's Bounty, which is an obvious Star War's reference.

Back in the early 90's, there was a trilogy of books released that began the Star Wars Expanded Universe (anything that wasn't in the movies) -- it was called the "Thrawn Trilogy".

I won't bore the non-fans about the plot, but it in, there is an unsavory scoundrel spaceship thief called Niles Ferrier who smoked a distinctive cigarra. It contained "Carababba tabac".

From the Star Wars wiki:

Carababba tabac: a kind of tabac smoked in cigarras. Niles Ferrier was known to smoke carababba tabac. Due to this distinctive smell, Lando Calrissian and Luke Skywalker were able to notice his presence on several occasions.

I for one would love to see alien Visions do a Carababba Tabac juice. New flavor?

Boba Fett, to any fan, is instantly recognizable.

He is a character owned and licensed by Disney (remember two months ago when it belonged to Lucas? Hah, good riddance.)

But does anyone know of Niles Ferrier, the Thrawn Trilogy, or carababba tabac? I doubt it. Also, the ideas and concept and such, I believe, belong to the author, not the licensee. But I could be TOTALLY wrong. Correct me if you know more than I do.

So, hypothetically, if they did do a juice and called it carababba tabac, I think they'd hear from Timothy Zahn (author of aforementioned trilogy and originator of "carababba tabac".)

Ironically, for you SW or sci-fi nerds out there, the Republic capitol world was called Coruscant (Core-ooo-sahnt). Lucas did not come up with this name. Timothy Zahn, the Thrawn trilogy author, did. Lucas decided it was such a cool name he jacked it for himself.

It is still copyright infringement whether the author/holder is well known or not. It is the decision of the author and publisher whether they want to attach the name to a commercial product. It would depend on the terms of the author's contract.
