New Vaper here, had my last cigarette the morning of December 19th. Go me!

I bought an itaste MVP 2.0 with Canadian Menthol 12mg nicotine e-juice.

Immediate success, I enjoyed it. I haven't even thought about going back to regular cigarettes, even though have had multiple opportunities to "bum" smokes of friends.

I used the default clearomisors that came with the MVP, I'm not sure what brand they are but my main concern was running out of ejuice and I don't want to find myself out without being able to vape.

I then bought a Kanger Genitank because it had a much bigger tank.

The problem is/was, I was just not getting the same satisfaction from the Kanger as the smaller MVP clearomisers. Thinking it was the aeroflow setting I was constantly adjusting it. It seemed like I was either getting to much air or not enough. When I adjusted the vV or vW to the highest setting it was coming close to the better experience I had had but, still not the same.

Then I stumbled on the solution, when vaping, if I were to press the button, hold it for a second or two then start drawing it started feeling right again. I believe this is the "throat hit" that I just wasn't getting from the Kanger.

Other background information:
  • I smoked about 25 analogs a day. (look at me embracing the terminology)
  • I've smoked for over thirty years.
  • It seems the throat hit is an important element to the experience for me and probably important to me successfully staying away from analogs
  • I never smoked menthols but really enjoy the menthol ejuice

So my questions:
Is pressing and holding the vape button a second or two before vaping going to:

  • damage my coils prematurely?
  • damage my mod/batteries prematurely?
  • burn through my batteries a lot quicker through the day?

Any other suggestions for stronger throat hits.

Thank you!

Welcome to ECF!! Congrats on quitting....:toast:

Pushing the fire button a bit early will heat your coil a bit more before you take a puff. It won't affect the coil or battery life, may reduce how long your charge lasts by a couple minutes, but not by much.

The difference you are seeing is likely to the Kanger being a bottom coil carto, while the one that came with your MVP is likely an iClear-16 top coil carto. Some of us like top coils better than bottom coils, it's a personal preference, I do and it would seem you also do....:)

Be aware that the eliquid you use can also make a difference in the throat hit, a higher PG content in the percentage increases it. As you change flavors you may want to adjust the wattage up or down a little bit for you sweet spot for that flavor. Some flavors like menthol will also increase it. I also never smoked menthol but it a flavor I vape for at least a bit everyday.

I can only add that I had a similar experience myself till I figured out a "technique" which works better for me, confirmed by the sticky on vaping technique. I used to smoke strong cigarettes and draw hard but that doesn't work well with vaping: too much air in, too fast, prevents the coil/wick from getting up to its optimal temperature for best vaporization - it feels like it's fading. I think a two seconds wait is a bit long and could possibly lead to gummy build-up or burning at the coil/wick interface. What I do is just a half second or so of power before sucking slowly, with AFC at 1 or 2 on a Nautilus Mini, for 4-5 seconds and then, when my mouth is full of vapor, inhaling. This gives me the best throat hit and nicotine intake buzz. I also find that works well with a fresh battery and ejuice fill at about 8W but as the battery and juice level drop I may have to crank gradually up, closer to 10W towards the end. I'm still experimenting but that's where I currently stand.
