Obviously nicotine is a big source of our throat hits, so when lowering the nic we get less TH. I'm in a similar situation as you and I think that the best solution is to just go down slowly in nic, very slowly, either by DIY or finding a vendor that will customize for you.

Another option that I have noticed at least for me is to find a creamy flavor. One vendor sent me a free sample of a 0nic creamy coconut flavor and dripping it gave me some type of mouth feel that almost negated the need for a throat hit.

One more option would be to start dripping, which I know is an inconvenience, but that is where the REO comes in. It provides all the positive benefits of dripping without any of the hassles!

I've been vaping at 24% for about 6 months. I need the throat hit more than anything, but I want to step down and eventually get rid of the nic. I'll still vape because I enjoy the flavor. So my question is, can I somehow get a decent throat hit with no nic?

Many strong things will give a throat hit; I use clove for example.

Some people use menthol for a throat hit.

As you lower your nic level, your sense of taste improves and it takes less to give you a throat hit.

Get TWO tanks: put the 24mg in one and a lower nic in the other;

Use the lower one mostly, and pretty soon you will find the 24mg is strong.

Are you using a vv device?
I don't remember cigarettes giving me a consistent throat hit either. We just went to the store and bought whatever they had and never really thought about it. Now as vapors we have learned that there is a lot more to it than just buying what the tobacco companies want to give us and we expect more.

If you are looking for that perfect hit and taste every time it's not going to happen. At least not for long. What was perfect yesterday may bee just bland today.

Using a vv battery and changing the amount of and intensity of vapor is another tool you can use to get more throat hit. Throat hit is just an irritant in your throat. Throat hit and taste will change from month to month, week to week and day today day. You will need a variety of juices and flavors or methods to get something that at least approximates what you are looking for.

I'm not sure on the ratio of mine, but I primarily vape four blend. I use a mechanical mod with a rsst at the moment. It gives a strong th so I'm going to step down on my next purchase.

Looks like your good then. Just buy some different nic strenght and mix. Reduce nic by 3-4 increments per week or month and you shouldn't even notice a huge difference until you hit the sub 12mg limit if you do it at whatever rythme is right for you.

With 6mg strength only dripping or my magoo really gets me enough th.

A kick in your mech can help by boosting the wattage.

Flavour Art sells an additive called Flash which can help. There are other additives out there..

High PG content helps too.

But i find my VV/VW device and the right atomizer helped me the best to reduce nic while keeing enough TH. But personally I'm not planning on going lower than 6 ..i might try 3, but zero nic just tastes like air to me :)

I have started vaping couple of weeks ago and tried three different vendors. I noticed that all three said 24mg nic but had a very different throat hits with the same flavor. Can it be that the one with the lightest throat hit had cheap material in the liquid. The best I have found so far is the vapor spot in Los Angeles.

Different PG/VG base;
the one with more PG would have the highest throat hit.
the one with more VG would have more visible fog.
