So, here's my vaping journey thus far:

I bought the D-2 from my local mall. Even though I way overpaid, I still love it.

Because I had the chargers and all that good stuff for the D-2, I ordered a couple of extra batteries from AZ Smoke Free so that I had some spares.

This is when I started to notice that D-2 cartomizers are pretty hard to come by (without paying an arm and a leg.)

Taking the advice of several ECFers, I purchased a D-2 to D-1 adapter and some D-1 cartomizers. The problem is that both the adapter and the D-1 cartos have holes in them so I basically get NO smoke or hit. I'd have to cover up the holes with tape or something to make it work. That would be fine around the house but I'm not going to pack scotch tape with me everywhere I go.

That being said, do I bite the bullet and just purchase the D-1 batteries, or should I go a whole different route and get a different type of e-cig altogether???

Good recommendation, unsure. I got one of those from Brad Smith and it was great....and very inexpensive. It's what convinced me that I would prefer a "mod" that uses regular batteries (cheaper, last waaaay longer) than the batteries that come with the regular e-cig kits. It's what led me to the REO Mini which is the best pv I've ever used.

I'm new also, So this may not be the response you are looking for, but, I started with a standard manual 510 and it works like a champ. If you decide to switch all together I suggest giving this a serious look because you can find the parts for it EVERYWHERE. and it's a good starting off point if you ever decide to go into mods.

I also wanted to take the chance to tell you that your name made me laugh. Seriously, Charlie Sheen makes Sinatra, Flynn, Jagger, Richards, all of them look like droopy-eyed, armless children.

The 510 will do you okay. The mod is probably the way to go, if you're really looking for a performance jump. The 510 won't put out 3.7v, and the battery time is on the crappy side. An 808 model will pump out 3.7v, and you can also use a 901 on it if you feel like dripping. Either which way you go, you'll be up and vaping lol. Good luck dude.

yeah, they have cartomizers. this is where I buy my stuff, and they carry them, but i'm sure a lot of other places do.

Rocky Mountain Vapor you have reached the mountain top of electronic cigarettes!

Edited to add:

Yeah the battery life is not so good. I compensate by having 5 of them, and if i leave my place i always have an extra somewhere with me. I'm trying to stay basic for now (Poor college student), but the Big Kazoo has caught my eye.

Thanks, Sugar. :)

For the 510, can you use cartomizers on that? I'm not familiar with cartridges and atomizers and, maybe I just don't know enough about them, but I just don't want to deal with two pieces.

There are cartomizers for the 510 - many vendors have them cloudsofvapor, nhaler, eg. And you can get a 510 to 901 adapter (just a few dollars if that) that would allow you to use KR808D-1 cartos as well.

The problem isn't with the performance of my D2. I actually love it.

It's just that the cartos are hard to find and expensive.

Battery life isn't a biggie. I'm now used to my D2 which will last me about 3 hours max before I have to recharge. But I'm okay with purchasing several of them and having different chargers with me at all times so I'm good to go.

My perfect e-cig would last at least 3 hours, use cartomizers that don't cost an arm and a leg and give me the same or better power as the D2. Good smoke and a medium throat hit are preferred.

I tried to refill a carto for the first time the other day and it was disaster. I'll post about that in a different thread. But the point is, I want to be able to have cartos readily available while I experiment with refilling. And if I decide I don't want to refill at all, then I still have a good selection of cartos.

From what you've described, I think the investment in some D1 batteries would be the way to go. If you're in a comfortable spot performance-wise, I don't see a reason to change (don't fix what ain't broke!)

While the pat answer on this forum for any question from how to get rid of fleas and ticks to what device should I use is Ego, someone whose found his or her sweet spot in terms of performance would have to start over and experiment to get back to that place with a different voltage.

If you're happy with how your D2's work and the only issue is the unavailability of reasonably priced accessories, switching to D1's makes all the sense in the world.

Should I just switch to the KR808D-1 battery and call it good? Or is there something better out there that fits my description?

Just saw this answer. Thanks for the suggestion, Sam. I just want to be sure that it's a good investment and I'm not missing out on something that is so much better (and as easy to use).
