I just discovered something interesting I thought I'd share. I apologize if it's been posted before but I'm too lazy to go scouring past threads.

I realized that the seal the cartridge forms against the atomizer (or tube in my penstyle case) is far from airtight. When I draw in air, a significant amount of air is coming through that seam between the cartridge and the atomizer, rather than through the holes on the other side of the atomizer itself (where it's supposed to). That air is vape-less, since it comes in below the atomizer, so it dilutes the total vapor you get from each draw.

So I tried wrapping scotch tape around the seam to better seal it, and whoa -- big difference! You can feel the harder draw since less excess air is coming in, and the vapor is heavier and produces more of a throat hit.

If you try it, be sure to wrap the tape carefully so there are no bubbles.

It's a simple step, but it really makes a difference. If you give this a try please let me know your thoughts :)

My only concern is that you might overheat (and eventually kill) your atomiser by doing this. I could easily be wrong, though - I'd just keep an eye on the heat coming out of it (hold it to your cheek once in a way - if it feels red hot, think again!) :)

Nah it doesn't get all that much hotter. I've made it a habit to keep checking how hot my atomizers get, and so far with the tape seal it seems to be the same level of warmth as before.

Yeah the carts loosen up quite a bit after a while (they're normally very tight when brand new, almost annoyingly so sometimes - but that doesn't last very long).

The drawback with tape of course is that it's a hassle when always topping off the carts. But I really don't know of any other good solution for this problem, so that may be the only alternative.

What I really don't understand is why empty new carts are so bloody expensive. They probably only cost a penny to make.

Wow, while reading this and using a Super Cigarette (I don't know what is really and haven't received my Pen yet from Steve, maybe tomorrow) I squeezed the cart around the atomizer and got some good throat hit as well as good vapor as opposed to an air like sucking sound that I normally get.

Hopefully someone will come up with a way to create a secure air tight fit on the carts so this isn't an issue in the future.

I know I will not be the one to figure this out. I just want to be a consumer.

I would imagine some sort of recess or groove in the atomizer with an O ring or something to that affect to create a secure fit without stretching out the cart for those who top off and/or refill carts. I would'n mind paying a little extra for that as a consumer.

I was considering something that wouldn't inhibit removal of the cart so much, like a gasket, rubber washer, or a piece of rubber tubing that could slide over the outside of the cig. But I'm too lazy to go looking for stuff like that. Maybe when I'm bored one day.

True that carts get looser over time --- however, at least with my RN4072, the seam is pretty loose on my new carts too, and sealing them up helps a lot. In fact when I originally tried this and posted the suggestion, it was a result of doing this with a new cart that had never been refilled. I'm not sure which cig(s) you have though, maybe some have tighter-fitting carts than others.

Oh and in response to that: You woudn't believe the markup people get away with on ecig supplies, probably since they're not widely available yet. Based on what I've seen distributor prices listed at, the markup is currently up in the 100%-150% range.

I try to get whatever I can from other sources (though that doesn't amount to much). Syringes, for example, go for about 75 cents in a drug store, probably less if you shop around online. And I don't need to tell you what they go for at ecig sites.

The was actually mentioned by Rustlug in the forums and on a video posted on Youtube. He recommends placing Tape over one of the holes as there is a chance you could accidentally burn out your atomizer. I usually cover the hole with my thumb when I feel like getting a big hit. Especially if I've had a bad day. Good tip though, it works great.

Gotta love that accent. We Americans are such boring talkers :)

I'd love to try this, except the 4 holes that are apparently in my RN4072 aren't visible, so I don't know where to cover. Anyone have any idea?

By the way, just to be clear, my tip is different from the video -- it isn't to cover the actual atomizer holes, but to cover the seam between the cart and the atomizer to prevent excess air from coming in.

Yea we don't have much of an accident. I used to when I was a kid however ( I was originally born in Wales)

I apologize about the post, I glanced at the model number you posted and thought you where talking about the supermini. (RN4081) Either way great information for anyone who hasn't tried it. :)

Someone posted that covering the holes results in the release of a toxin....don't remember what exactly but scared me a bit. I used to cover my DSE901b hole for a fraction of a second to get better hits (as was recommended in the other post), but since reading that about the toxin being released I stopped. The guys sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?
