RDA Tips on dual coil RDA with 3 posts

So I bought a mech about 2 weeks ago. I have a Brass Monkee that has the center block which is great for dual coils. I also i have a Mephisto V2 RDA. Now, the Mephisto has only three posts. Ive done a few dual coils on it but I just cant get it right. Its like, i don't know how to explain it. Its either too hot or it just plain sucks at vaping.

Ive done 4 wraps with 24g kanthal on a screw driver (exact same as the Brass Monkee) and it doesn't produce near as much vapor or flavor. Ive even done sleeper style builds as well. I tried 20g and 4 wraps, it barely fits. It damn near touches the side walls. 20g burns way too hot, probably because i was at .09ohms. Ive gotten extremely good at building on my Brass Monkee but the Mephisto stumps me.

So, when sharing that center post, how can i tell its shorting? Is it supposed to spark like a car battery? Any tips on doing dual coils with a shared center post?

On a side note, i didnt post anything about my mech due to me being busy, plus the guy at the local shop has helped allot with me getting into this. I went from an Istick 20W to this. Ive got a Manhattan (i think) FU mod. Copper threads, contacts, everything. Carbon fiber on the outside that says FU on the side. Its quite nice actually. Ive read tons of safety stuff about mechs and got me some decent batteries. Got everything I need as well. Ohm reader, charger that shows voltage etc... So thats that. Any tips on this is gratefully appreciated.

Without the dual block style center post, I build almost exclusively sleepers. Takes a few to get it down, but once you do you shouldn't have any problems. Outside of the sleeper style builds, my best advice is to make sure that the center post is well tightened. I've found that sometimes have to crank down on it pretty well to make sure that both wires are getting good contact.

It definitely shouldn't spark like a car battery. Sounds to me like your post screws aren't tight enough, or have subtle movement in the wire. What diameter are your coils? You say that 4 wraps of 20 would barely fit under the hood? Perhaps try coming up in the resistance just a tad. .09 is pretty low, but I never go that low. I tend to keep mine in the .2 to .3 range. I don't have any experience with the Mephisto....so sorry I can't offer more help.

The sparking does not sound good at all, i would guess either one of the coil legs broke, wire is loose or there is an issue with the centerpost/insulator.

As far as building goes, insert both leads of the first coil into the postholes, adjust the distance from the negative post to your liking and tighten the connection.
Adjust the distance of the coil from the positive post and bend the wire where it leaves the post to help keeping it place, then insert the 2nd coil.
Proceed in the same fashion for the 2nd coil, adjusting and tightening the negative first and centerpost last. Dryfire to check for hotspots and an even glow and heatup time.

As far as build goes, 4 wraps 24 gauge doesnt seem to have all that much surface area. May i suggest trying out something like 8 wraps on 2.5mm with 26 gauge wire?
If that build is too dosile and takes too long to heat up for your tastes, go down a wrap to 7 wraps. It a non-fancy build, but it should provide a decent starting point for a lot attys.

Best way to tell if its shorting, is if 1 coil does not get Red Hot. Definitely don't want any sparking! I don't think there are enough Volts for it to spark like that anyway.

Try wrapping your 24 ga more! That might help with your Vapor issues. yes, it will raise your resistance, but that may be a good thing! You never know until you try!!

Thanks for the input guys. I took it to the local shop and the guy threw on some .22g with 6/7 wrap. It's ok but I think I'm leaning towards the idea of maybe I just don't like this atty. I'm gonna invest into a mutation x or plume veil here in a few days, maybe one of those will work out better. For now though, I'll hang on to the mephisto and get better at building coils.
