Hello, just got my first custom sample pack of Tribeca, Midnight Apple and Turkish Tabaco. Decided to try Tribeca first in a brand new Kangertech Protank on a ProVari. Checked resistance. It is 2.6 so I dialed in 4.3 volts. I am new to vaping and this is the first e-liquid I have ever tried, not counting the disposables. Very interesting taste. I like it, but the question is: Should I steep Halo juices? If the answer is yes, for how long and should the cap be on or off? The "Best By" dates on the bottles are: 05/07/2014, 03/26/2014 and 04/23/2014. Thanks.

Some of Halo's flavors are perfect right out of the mail, and some really do require some shelf attention before they're ready for prime time. Give you two examples of opposite ends of that spectrum:

Midnight Apple is awesomepants right out of the mail. Literally. Open up your mailbox, open the package, break the seal on the bottle and drip Midnight Apple into your tank, carto or clearo standing right there with the mailbox still open. Delicious.

Bella Valente, on the other hand, you can put away for 3 weeks or a month, and then it's ready.

On the more moderate middle ground, Tribeca is perfect after a day or two. Prime 15, on the other hand, is perfectly vapable after a day or two, but will continue to mature to get better and better over the course of a week or two.

Here's how you can tell, by the way: You tell by the "nose" -- the smell of the juice.

Midnight Apple? Apple, plain and simple. Always gonna smell like green apple, from the first day to the last.

Tiki Juice? First day you open it, here's what it smells like: Root beer. (Some people say cola.) When it's ready, though, you won't smell root beer, you'll smell spices with a little bit of mint.

Prime 15? First day: Peanut butter cookie. When it's ready, it'll smell like dry tobacco leaves and just a little bit dusty/earthy.

Bella Valente? That one's gonna smell like your mom's perfume on the first day. When it's ready, though, you'll get vanilla and cuban cigar.

These are just my impressions, however. It really depends on your tastes and on which juice you're dealing with.

Mr. Castle, we discussed this previously. I wanted to chime in. My prime (been about a week) has lessened in PB smell/taste, but it is still in there. Actually, I kinda hope it doesn't go away. It has grown on me! But the earthiness you mentioned is really starting to come in. And I like it. They categorize it as a tobacco, and after steeping you can see why. But out of the post, it would be sold in the "gourmet" section. If that makes sense.

As for Tribeca, it seems to mellow, but it still has the same overall flavor.

Tiki I haven't noticed changing much, Torque seems to get a little less sweet after a few days.

Just my 2 cents.

For what it is worth I don't steep. I just open the bottle, shake, and then use it when I need it. My comments are based on bottles that were opened and used right away, but that I am still dipping into. I have had them all (except the Tiki) for about 2 weeks.

Do you steep it with a cap on or off?

You know what? I'll tell you from my own experience -- and as always others' may vary -- but it doesn't really seem to make too hugely much of a difference just how you steep juice.

The key is to let it just sit. If there's a difference between letting it sit in sunlight and letting it sit in the dark, I haven't noticed it. If there's a difference between letting it sit with the cap on or with the cap off, I haven't noticed it. The key is to let it sit. Put it away for a while. Don't touch it. That's it, and that's all.

Tribeca - good for me out of the bottle.

Longhorn - good, improved with a few days steeping.

Bella - completely changed over the course of a month.

Turkish - two weeks for full flavor.

Freedom - week steeping to mellow out perfume taste.

HX3 - good after a week.

Torque - steeping required. Out of the box, disgusting and ashy tasting. I let it steep with the cap off for a few days, then sit for a week. Transforms into the most amazing flavor I've yet vaped...gone through bottle after bottle of this stuff. And will continue to.

What is your setup to vape Halo's juice?

Any idea why none of the popular manufacturers use cotton or some other natural wicks? I am just curious. Do they all use fiberglass?

I dunno. My guess...silica can withstand the occasional dry hit. If I accidently up the voltage too high, or get a dry hit, I have to swap out the cotton. Most people don't feel like re-wicking. Silica holds up longer.

Well to get this thread back on track I wanted to share my experiences with Halo juices.

Mystic: Good out of box but mellows and improves with steeping.
Tribeca: Mellows as well. I personally didnt enjoy it when it first arrived.
Turkish: Tastes like straight chemicals fresh out of the mail. Im about a week in and its finally developing some good flavor; should continue to improve (hopefully)
Malibu: Great from day 1.
Midnight Apple: Good apple taste but the same hint of chemical I got from the Turkish. After about a week the tobacco flavor blossomed and complimented the apple nicely.

Ill be back if I get around to trying more :D

Torque 56: Let it sit for a week or two. Straight out of the 30ml it was way too sweet. After a couple weeks on the counter it is much better.

Good to know about the Midnight Apple. Tried it straight out of the mail and it was super perfumy tasting.

Im thinking about trying torque as my tobacco flavor next. Can you compare it to turkish?

And perfumy taste is a great way to describe it! Thats precisely the flavor that went away after a good steep (imo)
