So I've definitely decided that I am getting a Rio Grand and an RM2. However, now I've learned about the upgrade kit. I want it NOWNOWNOWNOWNOW, but that darn sensible side of me thinks that it just makes more sense to wait until the Grands are coming with the upgrade preinstalled. I normally vape right around .8 ohms, so it definitely seems that the upgrade is what I want. So, I guess what I'm looking for is someone to convince me that it's a good decision to get one now and then get the kit when it's released, rather than waiting for Rob to sell the unit with it preinstalled.

Well if you want to wait for the best vape of your life then do so. I'd get it now and vape happy until the upgrade comes the get it. .8 isn't that low many of us vape in that area already. The kit is more for the mad ones looking to get very low.

Welcome to Reoville. and we all look forward to seeing it when you get it.

That kit, while it will improve performance overall, is meant to address voltage drop on really low sub ohms (0.6 ohms and below) At 0.8 ohms you shouldn't have any issues. I got my third REO knowing the kit was coming soon. When it comes to REOs I can't be bothered to wait, at the end of the day I'll just get 3 kits when they come out and install them. (Fairly easy :D)

I'd say get it now. The kit WILL increase battery life a bit, improve voltage drop vastly, but keep in mind the REO is perfect the way it is. The whole controversy about voltage drop was because of a few of us crazy SLR people trying to fire it at 0.3-0.5 ohms. At 0.8 ohms you are good.

I've run a 0.8Ω in my tumbled raw aluminum work/commute Grand and a 0.5Ω in the home (powdercoated) Grand since I've had them. The 0.5Ω fogs up a room so badly I can't use it at work, yet has never even pulled 8A from the battery. The 0.8Ω pulls less than 5A and lasts me through a 16 hour day with a 2000 mAH AW IMR. Given I've already got rebuild kits and a couple of extra springs for each, and am more than happy with the current performance, I have no intent of "upgrading."

Ha. I think one will do me. I know, I know...famous last words. But I think I'm convinced. Besides, new components will mean a price increase, right? So getting one now at the current price is really the only responsible thing to do. The tumbled aluminum looks really good to me. Is there any disadvantage to it compared to colored models?

There's a chance that had the tumbled raw aluminum been my first Grand, I would've had two, or perhaps it would've even been my only one. To me, it's a tool I toss in the back pocket with a knife and flashlight--I don't have to worry about scratches or powdercoat chipping. It's developed the "character" of an old, cherished Zippo lighter. I have the option to polish it if I want a fingerprint magnet or brush it if I tire of the look. Good choice, IMO.

Well, trigger = pulled. Raw aluminum was out of stock (boo!), so I went with the black/copper vein job. Still looks pretty sweet. Bliss, here I come.

Woo Hoo! Congratz!

The Black/Copper Vein is very classy! I love my Copper Vein door on my anodized Black.
