The 3 main types of tonsilitis are due to bacterial or viral infection. Perhaps you should visit an ENT doctor. I have never heard of a bacterium/viral agent delivered via smoking. Smoking may aggravate your symptoms but associated increased infection is not proof that one caused the other. The tonsils are part of the immune system and frequently need to be removed if enlarged or the sufferer has frequent infections. I had mine removed as an adult and have enjoyed better health since then. But recuperating from that surgery was no picnic.

Amen to that one, I had mine removed when I was 25, and I swear the post op recovery was longer and more painful than when I gave birth to my son a year later
damn thats not good to hear, Hope i dont need them removed. I thought maybe over smoking could irritate the tonsils and make them more supportable to infection etc. No one thinks this is possible.

Healthy immune systems, in which the tonsils are a part of, endeavor to achieve homeostasis. Would sitting next to a woodburning fireplace on a daily basis irritate the tonsils? How about engine exhaust from backed up traffic? My town sometimes issue smog alerts to susceptible individuals and their tonsils may be activated to deal with filtering but does not create a primary infection. Bacteria or a virus cause tonsilitis.
Anything that is a constant irritant to the body can break down the resource activated to clear it. Thus the immune system may be hard pressed to fight off exposures. It takes years for cigarette smokers to develop symptoms from smoking and the tonsils are rarely involved. I doubt that e-smoking for a brief period of time is the source of your illness. Hope you feel better...because the removal surgery is a pain.
No i was speaking specifically of tobacco cigarettes not e-smoking. I was taking a guess that my sometimes chain cigarette smoking behavior might be leading to my persistent tonsillitis bouts. I got tonsilitus for like the first time in my life in march, Then i got it again in april. took meds both times. Got it again in like may, but fought it off myself with out meds.. now i have it again. its getting annoying frustrating and worrying. The only connection i can see is the constant cigarette smoking irritating my throat and making it prone to infection
Gradually get rid of cig's: smoking is not good for tonsil anyway, and, in the long run, just not good for health! breathing exercise, and exercise in general, with food that builds up resistance to 'uri' , should be excellent!
