I tried my friend's e-cig, and I thought it was okay. I really need to quit smoking because I recently got asthma from 14 years of smoking. Just a little about myself: I smoke about 7 ultra light cigarettes a day. What I am looking for is a durable and small e-cig that can basically replace my packs of cigarettes.

I've been reading for a few hours, and I realized that there is way too much info for me to absorb. From my understanding, I should get a manual e-go cig since it has universal parts and the battery lasts long. I prefer the smaller 510, but I hear they are not durable and have crap batteries.

Also, regarding atomizers and cartomizers, I realy don't know which one to get. I don't know what flavors or strenth I should get.

I know I sound clueless, but I thought it might be best to consult experts before i made a purchase. If I had to buy it right now, I'd probably buy the pro starter kit from Green Smoke just because I am clueless.

Thanks, in advance.

Here's a link to the Riva: Riva E Cig Kit | Riva SLB Online | Riva Kit. They sell this on Liberty Flights US as well (make sure to get the 20% discount there).

Get cartomizers - 510, juice, an atomizer or two and at least one drip tip to start. Don't use the cartridges that come w the kit as they are kinda gross.

There are plenty of great kits out there... this is just 1.

Thanks for the response Huffelpuff, I went to this link too. I have to agree with charlie that the amount of information about different types of PVs can be overwhelming. Luckily, my brother vapes, so he's my expert to go to for information. Without him, I would be totally lost!

I'm also a noob, and I totally feel your pain when it comes to getting started! INFORMATION OVERLOAD!

I found that a simple design really made stoping smoking easy for me. The 808 shaped like a cig, I started with could charge at night and then just throw on a carto in the morning when I craved that first cig. I'd carry two all day and switch back and forth and it would last all day. Too easy. The e-go 510s are just as easy to get started on, and do appear to have more potential for tinkering and growth than and 808 style. The downside for me was that I was reading this forum and very soon wanted more flavor, vapor, and battery life, so in a short time I bucked up and got a mod!

If I had it to start over again, I would have not chosen an 808 that looked like a cig. I would have gotten an e-go or something similar, because the price was pretty much the same, the battery is better and there are more cool options out there when you want to expand your platform. Personally, I don't like the way the e-gos look, so that led me to a decision that ultimately has been a learning experience, but probably wasn't the best choice. Granted, I still like the 808 design, because it's sneaky, pocketable, and just so easy to deal with. I won't be getting rid of them. Just adding more to the rotation.

Good luck with your choice and health. I coughed up some nasty stuff for a week or so after the switch and now I'm breathing great.

Don't worry if you don't know what to get right now, this certainly won't be your last purchase.
You can always make changes as you buy replacement parts down the road.

The point is to get started, and go from there.

Once you start, you will quickly learn what YOU need from the vaping experience.
And it just gets easier and easier...

The ego (3.4volt) is a good place to start but if you're getting an 1100mah model I would recommend the kgo/riva(3.7volt) for a little more power.

Everything else is pretty much goin to be trial and error until you find what you like. For starting out though I would suggest getting some LR (low resistance 1.5 - 2.0 ohm) and some SR (2.5ohm) cartomizers or clearomizers.

Juices are subjective and again trial and error will help you find your flavor and ratio. Since you're not a heavy smoker and ultra lights don't have much throat hit you can probably start with some 18mg nic juice. I would suggest that you also get a variety of flavors and ratios as far as pg/vgonce you have a basis of which to work then it wil be easier to adjust and fine tune everything to what it is you prefer

Another good option might be a Volt from SmoklessImage.com, it's a 808, slim and for a light smoker simple to use and refill cartos.

p.s. Welcome to ECF !!

I'm new as well and this is what I just ordered a few minutes ago. Like you I was overwhelmed with all the varieties of options out there. Also like you, I tried my friends Greensmoke and was looking into that as well but with all the reviews and info I've been finding over the past 2 days of research, I went with the Volt. Your situation sounds too similar to me, and not saying you have to follow me with my choice but from what I gathered it wasn't a bad one. I've yet to try the Volt personally though but am hoping my expectations are correct.

I was thinking of making this recommendation as well.

What I like about it is that you can bump up to their X2 batteries to get a KR808 version of an Ego, only better.
Better because both the standard Volt and the X2 upgrade batteries are regulated at 3.6 volts.
The Egos are regulated to only 3.4 volts.

And the Volt cartomizers are supposedly some of the best cartomizers you can get these days.

You'll get tons of recommendations.. here's mine. You'll soon be disappointed with the slim 808's.. get yourself a KGO. It's 510 threaded, giving it tons of options for carto's. The batteries will last you all day, and into the next and there's two batteries in the kit.SLB KGO Starter Kit
This kit comes with cartos.. not the crappy atomizers that come with other kits. The carto's are empty so you'll need some juice to fill them,, there's lots of video's out there to show you how to fill them. And you can add more carto's to your order at a reduced price. I know that might sound a little complicated but it isn't really. You can also buy prefilled cartomizers to get you started, just make sure to get 510 threaded. And I've found that Boge 2.0ohm cartos work quite well on the KGO. It's only as complicated as you want to make it.. the KGO is really easy and will last a good long time for you. And if you really want to get rid of the analogs,, you'll do it with this setup. Good luck,, and if you need more help,, there's lots of us here to help!!

This would more than suit your needs charlie310. For someone who only smokes 7 cigarettes a day this would be perfect to start. Its by far the best cigarette style e-cig you can get, even people who have been vaping for a long time are surprised by the performance this provides. I would recommend starting out at around a 12mg nicotine and see how that does for you, if you feel that thats too much then you can go lower but feel 12 is a good place to start for you.

Definitely go with their standard kit that comes with 2 batteries, its always good to have a back up. I highly doubt you will drain 1 battery in a day based on your current smoking habit but just in case you will have an extra at hand. Start with this kit and if down the road you want to progress then look into the bigger batteries, no need for you to start there.

Here is a link Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Volt - Standard Starter Kit - Starter Kits

I hope this helps :)

Thanks, yeah there is so much information on this site and after looking at page after page of different brands, glad I picked one with good feedback. To think, I was about to order the Blu kit... lol. Love the looks and layout of it but too many bad reviews.

Asthma is nothing to be fooling around with. Consult a physician before you quit the cigarettes. Cigs can help make asthma symptoms go away and it can also make symptoms worse. Asthma can and does KILL people. See a doctor first, don't trust the stuff you read on the internet when it comes to asthma, ECF included.

That said, smokers tend to do better when they switch to a better quality e-cigarette: an APV (Advanced Personal Vaporizer) rather than the little cigarette-sized devices. I'd recommend something like a KGO or E-Power 14650 (hard to find right now) with at least a 1000 mAh battery for starters.

Wow! I posted this right before I left work. I just ate dinner and checked online to find so many people trying to help me. I'm a memeber of many forums, but this quickness is a 1st for me. This further confirms my belief that smokers are generally the most friendly people who can meet (it makes sense when you think about what we do when we smoke: socialize). Thanks for all the advice. Looks like I will soon be on my way to a healthier lifestyle.
