Looks like I'll be going with the volt due to the many recommendations. Now the next step: which starter kit should I buy?

Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Starter Kits

I picked up the Volt Pro starter kit http://smokelessimage.com/starter-kits/voltpro.html and then on that order page is an option to add on a few options (chargers, cables etc) which were cheaper than buying them alone. So I got the Pro and added a wall charger and another 5 pack of cartos with that coupon code I posted here ( VoltSave ) and it was less than the starter kit originally with the added benefit of a wall charger and more flavors to try.

I agree with -optics-, I would go with the Pro Starter Kit and pick up a wall charger. The Pro Starter Kit comes with the PCC which allows you to charge your batteries while you are away from an outlet or USB. I would get two additional packs of Cartos so you can try them and re-order if you like them and allow for mailing time so you won't run out. Also, make sure to take a picture of yourself using your volt and send it to Imagine at Smokeless Image for your freebie - see link below.

I'm probably just going to get the Standard Starter. I work in an office where where I have my own laptop. I only smoke 7-10 cigs a day, so I can't see myself puffing on my volt for more than 2 hours a day. Worse case scenario, I also have a netbook that I can carry around. You guys really helped me out. I am going to buy the Volt Standard Starter with 3 Medium 12mg sampler Cartos (Strong, Smooth, and Sweet). :) :p

The Volt does seem like a good starting place for you. The minimum starter kit you should consider is the Standard Starter Kit because you need at least two batteries. A better starter kit would probably be the Pro Starter Kit that Optics is getting because it adds the charging case so you can charge a dead battery while you're at work or otherwise out and about. I'd suggest getting the Smooth Sampler 5-pack of cartomizers at 6 or 12 mg nicotine with the kit, then perhaps adding the Sweet and Strong sampler 5-packs as that will give you an idea of the range of flavors that are available and you should be able to find at least one or two that you like. Good luck! Oh, and you may want to check out the Smokeless Image subforum here at ECF. :)

As another noob, I will go ahead and say a 2 battery KR808 package is gonna be ideal for getting you off analogs. It worked for me! If you want to quit altogether, you can work your way down from higher mg nicotine cartos to zero mg.

As for me, I love vaping and don't see nicotine as any worse than say caffeine, so I will offer this advice when you make your first purchase. Buy a bunch of pre-filled cartomizers....I mean a bunch! You'll save on shipping that way and have a lot of options to try. Also, you won't run out and possibly relapse. If you don't mind putting in a bit of effort and using a lot of paper towels, buy a few boxes of blank cartomizers. The volt ones are great, and then start your search for the perfect juice. It's not as easy as just lighting up a smoke, but the taste, smell, and feeling is really worth the effort!

At 7 ultra-lights a day I really can't see you going wrong with just about anything as long as it doesn't spit or leak.
You don't need a ton of battery life, throat hit or vapor.

I'd question vaping with asthma, you'd be inhaling stuff into your lungs. If your friend has enough of a backup plan I'd try it longer than a short try. Otherwise I'd try a disposable before sinking some real money into it.

I have been managing adult onset asthma for the last 20 some years.
Right up to last year I was smoking two packs a day. And was on daily Meds to control it.

After I started vaping my doctor has cut back every thing, but my rescue inhaler and allergy Meds.
Long story short my doctor was thrilled that I had stop smoking.
I personally doubt that vaping can be worse than than the two pack a day I was smoking.

The slim mini style never got me engaged. A couple of months went by with the mini kit in the drawer until I tried the ego-T tank model. (Now most people seem to get the ego-C instead, which is the T model with changeable atomizers.) I dropped 70-90 bucks (I forget) on a tank kit from ego and it stuck. I noticed a lot of advanced folks on these forums still like tank systems like this, even when they have various mods and more sophisticated kit. The tank system works well for the "slip in your pocket to go to dinner" usage pattern when a mondo-battery etc. getup would be too unwieldy or "make too much of a statement."

Wow, that is a rare condition: the same one that I have. I actually got it immediately after a bad case of the flu (But i'm sure smoking had something to do with it as well).

Yup. When I quit smoking for a year, I didn't need to use my Symbicort (daily medication). But, now that I'm smoking, I have to use it once or twice a day or I can't stop coughing.

I appreciated everyone's concern with the whole asthma thing. But, there are various degrees of asthma, and I believe only the person with the asthma knows how bad it is (when doctors diagnose your asthma, they actually ask you how bad your asthma is, LOL).

I'm also new, and as someone who has almost identical smoking habits, the Volt has been awesome for me. 1 carto and 1 battery is enough for me all day (at 12mg anyway). I still carry extra cartos and keep the other battery charged and with me at all times for when I run dry or the battery dies.

Good luck, I think you're going to like your Volt!

Just got my package today. Cool thing is that the volts were already fully charged, so I started puffing away. I think the 12mg may be too strong for me (of course I prefer more MGs, but I am trying to cut-back so I can eventual quit).

In any case, I was wondering if you can puff on a cartridge for a little bit, and then switch it out for a different one, keeping the used cartidge in the rubber casing. And then, switch back to it. I got all 3 sampler packs, and I want to test a few puffs from each so I can make a better decision of what flavors I like best and worst.

Eventually, I'm going to switch myself the the worst tasting cartidges, as it will help me quit nicotine for good.

Yes you can, being able to quickly change from one flavor to another is one of the nice things about cartos.

Enjoy your new kit!

Yes you can swap carts in and out. It will probably take a few puffs to get to the second flavor and maybe a lot of puffs to get the first flavor all the way gone.

If cigarettes didn't taste bad enough to make you quit I can't imagine e-cigs being that bad.
I think you'd be better off going to the best tasting juice you can find in 0mg.

I really can't imagine 7 ultra-lights a day being a big enough nicotine addiction to worry about or last any amount of time if you would drop all nicotine.
Whether your cigarettes were spaced out or all at once either way you were beyond the half-life of nicotine before the next day or the next cigarette. That points to you not having a big addiction and possibly no addiction at all.

Yes, I admit that I think I'm more psychologically addicted than physically addicted. Regardless, I still love nicotine.

The act of the e-cig should take care of the psychological addiction.
If you still wanted nicotine that would be different. I read on a seller website that 11mg was equal to light cigarettes and I think 6mg was ultra-light. I can't argue with the 11mg because I smoked lights and 11mg did me pretty good, 18mg was too much.

When I originally switched, I started too high =(, I thought thats what i would need to get over analogs - but I quickly learned that made me sick, and went quite a bit lower (from 36 to 12)
