Before I quit the analogs, I would smoke pretty much a pack a day. But because I was limited to the places I could smoke, I would take many 'breaks' to do it throughout the day. Once I started vaping, I became curious if I now vaped more or less than I used to smoke as it seemed to me I vaped much more than I used to smoke.

Nic concentration of an analog aside (I have settled into 14mg and feel comfortable with it for now), I have estimated that an analog 'smoke' lasts anywhere from 15-20 puffs. Tonight I asked a co-worker to count how many puffs he took from his smoke before he finished, told me he counted 18. This is where the eVic comes in super handy :) For the last 5 days I have determined that I usually take 350-400 puffs per day. So roughly equal to 19-22 analog smokes, or 1 pack, to just over 1 pack per day.

So with my nic set to my perfect comfort level im physically taking about the same number of puffs per day that I used to on the analogs. It only seems to me that I vape more frequently because I DO. Difference being that I don't have to do it quickly to keep my breaks short at work, I don't have to hotbox so that I can quickly finish my smoke and get back to what I was doing somewhere that smoking is forbidden. I don't have to go long periods without enjoying the physical act of smoking (and keeping the nic levels stable).

I guess the major difference, I can casually, without stress or haste, vape whenever and almost where ever I want to.

Just my semi scientific observations and attempt to justify the expense of this slightly overpriced but super fun eVic gadget :)

I find myself vaping way more than I smoked, sort of.

Basically it's the same as Dreddsparc. I find myself hitting on my twist (or whatever the pv of the moment is) more frequently, but since there is no committment (like with a cigarette - you light it and you finish it) I'm not puffing on it for an almost pre-determined amount of time. I'll hit it once or twice then put it down and do something else. I'm never rushing to "finish it" like when I was smoking. Plus, I'm not "lighting up" one after another just to get the maximum amount of nicotine in during a specific time frame.

My husband vapes less than I do, or so it seems, but he uses double the nic that I do. I don't know that upping my nicotine would keep me from my frequent vaping mainly because I simply enjoy vaping, way more than I did smoking!

Yeah I defenitely vape 10 time more often than I smoked but I mean i'm chilling for several minutes at a time before I hit it again unlike a cig where i'd be trying to hit it as fast as i could to get as much as i could off of it. My evic says I take about 300 puffs a day but it is literally an extension of my hand. I have a friend who at one point was clearing out a 10ml 24mg bottle a day. I thought I was a chain vaper until he told me that. I probably use 2 to 3 mls a day of 18mg.

I have to agree with HippieHermit on this point as well. Im a flavor junkie! Much like eating all of a bowl of candy, not because im hungry, but because it tastes so good. I'll probably always enjoy a good vape even after i've reduced my nic level to 0. I've always been a fidgety type of person, and the physical act of smoking/vaping is just as big a part of the 'addiction' for me as the nic. Makes it no great wonder why vaping made it so easy (for me at least) to walk away from analogs. Keeps the hands busy, and there are soooo many flavors to explore that my tastebuds will never get bored with it.

I thought the same thing. I've noticed that I'm vaping a lot more than I was smoking simply because I vape inside my house, and I always went outside to smoke. But as another poster said, usually your not taking 18 hits in 3 minutes like you would with a cigarette. Right now, I'm sitting in front of the tv. I have my ego next to me. I'll take a hit, and then put it down for a minute, and then take another. So I probably take 20 hits in 20 minutes. I think it all evens out in the end. I haven't noticed any increased dependence on nicotine. I can so go 2-3 hours without vaping at all just like I did with cigarettes at certain points in the day.

But I am interested if anybody has actually increased their dependence on nicotine. Are there any former pack a day smokers that started vaping, and now they can't go 20 minutes without it without going through withdrawal? Because that would suck. It's nice to be able to stop and get stuff done without constantly worrying about a nic fix every 5 minutes.

I'm less dependent, but for me, it was always a psychological thing. Because I was limited in the places I could smoke, I often had one when I didn't really need or want one just because I wasn't sure when I would have the chance again. With vaping, I don't have that because I always know that if worst comes to worst, I can slip into the ladies room at any time and vape away. Because I know that I can vape whenever I want, I don't feel as great a need to do it. Like on a plane. I used to hate to fly and was very fidgety waiting for the flight to land so I could get off and have a smoke, but even though I don't vape on planes, I know that if I really needed to, I could and that keeps me calm enough to not have to. I can go hours now without even thinking about getting a nic fix whereas when I was smoking, I was often thinking about when and where I would be able to get away to have my next one.

I started out at 24 mg and felt like I was constantly puffing on the ecig. But I think it's like everyone has said, I was taking fewer puffs (compared to a cigarette) over a longer period of time. I expressed my concern about it when I first started back in July of last year to my husband and his response was basically, "If you're not feeling sick or dizzy and you don't have a headache..don't worry about it." I have since lowered my nic level to 20 mg (baby steps, lol) and I'm more conscious of when I'm vaping. Now I know that I almost chain vape at night after the kids are in bed but I can go an hour or more during the day without it. A few mornings I've not had a craving so I haven't vaped until I actually realized that I was getting cranky which I blamed on a lack of nicotine.

For me I started out that way. Took 24 mg to help me through the first week of detox and cravings. Then I found I was chain vaping because I could vs having to take a break to go out and smoke.

Fast forward to about month 3, I was down to 18 mg and vaping less and less. Over the next 5 months my vaping ebbed and flowed, and I found that sometimes I could leave the house and forget to grab my pv and not freak out. At that time vaping had become part of my day, and I wasn't shopping for more juice, the next mod, or even visiting ECF as I was set with supplies for a good 6 months.

Then I ran out of the good juice, so I had to order more while I vaped what I put in the back for as emergency supply. Turns out that the place I got my good juice from wasn't available, so I had to do some research to find another supplier. Brought me back to ECF, and bamb. I got the bug again. Found some new gear to go with that new juice, and my vaping went back up.

So, TLDR version is... it's probably considered normal to chain vape at the start. You are not going to absorb the nic at the same pace as when you smoked and it will take time for your body to adjust. Once past that point, it's normal to vape constantly at lower mg or less often with higher mg, or whatever your pleasure takes you to. :D

Edit: Oh and congratulations on making the switch.

MY first 3 weeks or so I was going through probably 6ml+ a day. Chain vaping for sure. Once I got used to the lack of crap from smokes I mellowed out some. Down to about 3ml a day now. Though the last week+ I've had the flu and dropped my vaping down big time. It's only been the last 2 days that vaping even sounds good.

I chain vape sometimes, especially in the car. Probably has something go do with the fact I would smoke and analog any time a good song came on. Strangely enough I don't even miss that. I started at 24 mg, and quickly went to 18 as I felt it was too strong. I'm about to go down to nine, I'm currently mixing the 9 and the 18 and my vaping seems to have slowed from when I first started. I think you just have to get used to the whole process. As long as your not getting shortness of breath, headaches, and you've cut back or stopped smoking, I'd say your doing great.

When I first started, I put out more steam than a locomotive. But I've gone much down from there, lowering my nic from 24, to 12mg/ml. Its nice to be able to do it in my house and not have to walk out in the cold, but at the same time, having it close by makes me do it more.

I don't think it's too bad if you chainvape like a madman though, but the long term effects have yet to be seen.

I'm home all day and, evenso, found I was carrying my PV on me where ever I went in the house which I never did with smokes. That's something I took a break and sat down for. When I realized my PV had all but become part of my body and got an uncomfortable feeling when it wasn't in my pocket or right next to me, I started not carrying it on me and that's made a big difference. I made a rule... I must vape pretty much the same way I smoked... take a break for it. No lanyards for me.

I worried at first when I read two-pack-a-day smokers needing 3ml a day because I probably vape 1.25ml of regular stregnth nicotine plus a few cigarettes a day and I used to smoke only about seven light/ultra light addative-free cigarettes a day.
I read 1.5ml = 1 pack, but now finding different answers like the average is 2ml = 1pack.
Part of vaping a lot though is feeling how less of a toll it takes on the body compared to smoking. I never felt any nicotine ill effects either. They say it's the combustion of cigarettes much more than the nicotine that's the problem. I'm a flavor junkie also and just enjoy vaping and just blowing out vapor seems to trick cravings. I'm ordering very low nicotine and %100VG which is likely healthier than PG, and don't care much for the PG lung hit, so it's like a win win. When I DIY juice, I'll add no/almost no nicotine and just vape flavors and VG and add vitamins or something.
