Ive been vaping, and tobacco free, for about a month now.
Im still a newb when it comes to this and Im learning every day, but I wanted to list the Top 5 things that make this so enjoyable.

5- I dont stink any more!
My clothes, breath, house, car are all starting to have a clean smell again.
When I pass someone who smokes I can smell the cigarettes on them. I cant believe I ever smelled that bad.

4- The "Hobby" aspect
It fun to fiddle with different things. Trying different recipes.
Mixing juices is fun to do.

3- The vaping Community
Ive never sat around with other smokers and talked about smoking, but with Vapers there is always a conversation going on about new/different devices, techniques, flavors, etc.

2- The choices and variety
So many different models. Different modifications. Different flavors.
The choices seem unlimited and every day there seems to be something new that I want to try.

1- The Number 1 thing is that Im not paying $1500 a year to Big Tobacco.
They get rich and I make myself sick. I love the fact that they wont be getting my money any longer.

vaping does have a learning curve and isnt as easy as smoking, but I like it so much more.
The only thing I can think to compare it to is- Vaping is like getting your food from a Grocery, while Smoking is like getting your food from a Fast Food place.
Sure getting food from MacDonalds is faster. You dont have to spend the time mixing all your ingredients together and then waiting while it cooks. You just order it, get your bag, open it and eat it.
Faster, yes. Better for you, hardly.

.

Just FYI, the MYO/RYO (make your own cigs) has the same features.

Id have to disagree with you here.
I know 3 people who roll their own and at least to me, they seem like any other smoker.

5- they are still smoking and smell like it.
4- Hobby aspect? I guess so if blending different tobaccos could be considered a hobby.
3- Community? Ive never seen or heard of a RYO Community and when Id be out with them smoking we never discussed the fine art of rolling.
2- Choices and variety. Ok you got me there. There are alot of choices and varieties of rolling papers and tobacco blends.
1- since they are still buying tobacco they are giving money to BTC and since they are smoking (unfiltered no less) they are still making themselves sick.

Your mom said not to say...
Have to disagree with you on your argument about the RYO crowd. Yes, it is a hobby aspect to it. Looking for the right rolling equipment and what tubes you prefer and what different style of tobacco you like. There is a lot to it really. As for the community aspect yes, there is a little bit but not like with E-Cigs just due to the fact that it's not new like the E-Cig is, people have been RYO for years. When I smoked the tobacco shop that I got my supplies at (which I have talked into selling E-Cigs, lol) always had a crowd of people in there discussing different aspects of it or just sitting there shooting the spit. I have introduced many people to RYO when they see me pull my smokes out of my case or see me rolling it they are curious as to the taste and if it's better than their method of giving money to RJ Reynolds to package it for them.

Now having said that, I do think that E-Cig has much more community involvement like I said because it is new and unproven to a lot of the general public as we are well aware. It is nice to have others to ask questions of or to help others make a right choice for their personality. I cringe every time I see someone just state to get a particular model without taking into consideration the persons personality or smoking habit. Not everyone is in love with the 510, and people are constantly telling the new people to get one without bothering to find out what they are like. A senior citizen is less likely to be pleased with a 3pc model with the constant attention it needs, or someone who works with their hands or on a line, can't be taking time to fill up a cart or drip when they want to vape. Now before the senior citizen crowd comes looking for me, I mean that in a general way, I'm sure there are some out there that do enjoy tinkering, the point is that it's something to be aware of when recommending a E-Cig. Before the 510 lovers jump on me I used that as an example since it is the one that is commonly shouted out about, but it could just as easily have been a m401, or 4081 or whatever, any of the 3pc models.

I agree that there are people that like to tinker with things and some that are all thumbs. For my mother in law, I ordered a two piece system, she definitely doesn't want to do the extra work of a 3 piece.

Yes, these devices are not "one size fits all" by any means.

But I think most people are just trying to steer you to the one that works best for them, so its all good:)

I missed 5 first time around - note to gashin - even though the stuff I made didn't have the smell like premades they did still smell.

On the rest though - there was a hobby aspect for many. There were and are probably more forums than ecigs where 'hardware' and 'software' were discussed - reviews, videos, hatred of the FDA - not much appeasing though, blends, accessories, etc. discussed. Like you mention lots of choices and the shipping and payment simpler in some cases. No 'china' choices - well that I knew of.

Actually some RYO vendors did grow there own but it is true that they also went to tobacco wholesalers. I suppose you could call that BT but the wrath is usually reserved to those who directly serviced our habits for decades - the cigarette companies many of whom didn't make RYO tobacco - some had a few lines.

No filters? I don't think you know that latest of the RYO/MYO method which may explain some things. There are tubes with filters in the MYO part where you make your own using a machine like this:

Anyway, since I came from that community the change isn't as big for some that didn't.

I rolled my own for years - and yes, I used a machine and tubes with filters. It was a pain, but it didn't have the additives of ready-made cigarettes or the high price. In fact, I stumbled across e-cigs looking for a site with less expensive tobacco when the recent cigarette tax hike hit RYO tobacco. Before that, I was able to make a carton for $6.77 cents.

But - I still stunk, and my lungs crackled when I lay down at night, and my windshield turned yellow, and my blood pressure was elevated, and I was banished outdoors at work to fulfill my need ....
