Top reasons why you started vaping and/or quit smoking

My biggest reason to quit smoking was my wife telling me she was pregnant with our third child. I never smoke around the other two kids we already have, but they knew I smoked. So now I'm a non smoker and a vaper, which I don't mind them telling people.

Second biggest reason I switched to vaping I got tired of my wife complaining and nagging me all the time to stop smoking. The first time she smelled my first juice (mango) she was sold and now she supports me fully.

The last major reason I switched was after watching both of my parents quit smoking, I felt weak that they could stop and I couldn't. So I did something. On a personal note my father is my hero, and the fact that he was disappointed that I was still smoking was a major push for me.

Mine was pure curiosity - and declining health. I absolutely would have kept smoking regardless of getting sick, had I not had a "WTH" moment at a gas station that started me on the vaping trail. After a month of using disposables in my car instead of smoking I realized there must be something better that could completely replace my smoking. A day after I bought my first decent set up I realized I actually COULD quit smoking without giving up what I loved about it.

So many reasons I wanted to stop smoking that I can't list them. Health first by a long shot, smell, and the impact it had on my everyday life. I also hated being a slave to the thing.

I started vaping solely as a way to quit smoking, because over the years, everything else had failed. I'm still amazed at how well it's working. I plan on getting my nic down to 0, then I'll see what happens. I'll probably naturally become an occasional vaper, and if so I will absolutely keep my gear and liquids close so I can reach for them when the dreaded "Oh I'd like a smoke, it's been so long, can handle just one" comes. Because I know it will.

I started out of curiosity, just to see if I could from time to time vape instead of lighting an analog cigarette. The result was that I liked vaping so much more than smoking that I quit smoking instantly and with no effort.
I currently vape 3ml a day and my liquid is rated at 12mg nicotine.
For me, the health benefits and the economic benefits (big savings) are just icing on the cake.

Just saw a Chantix ad. Guy said that he had given up on quitting, tried it, and quit so easily it seemed like an accident. LOL!!

I hate going outside in -20deg to smoke.
-20 deg? In Virginia?! Unless you travel a lot, that must be an exaggeration.

Getting around sin taxes / an alternative to RYO.

Considering I wasn't looking to quit smoking, it was the prospect of not paying the asinine price a pack of cigarettes go for in Chicago or NYC that got me to randomly try my first disposable.

Gave a disposable a try, realized the claims on the package were hogwash concerning "this e-cig equals 3 packs of traditional cigarettes," but saw potential.

The interwebs hooked me up from there regarding how to do it right.

Cheers

Was stuck between actually enjoying smoking and not wanting to inhale stuff that had a noticeably increasing adverse impact on my health.

I wasn't really one of those smokers with a bad conscience who felt I couldn't quit. I was one of those who loved the ritual of smoking and didn't want to quit. Then again, I didn't (at all) enjoy how my lungs and throat felt. Also noticed it has an increasing impact on my circulatory system. ... and knowing I smelled bad all the time.

So... after doing some research, ridding myself of the "don't know what's in those things" and "it's not quitting" and "PG and VG doesn't sound healthy at all"... I figured vaping was an excellent alternative. Luckily; turned out I was right. Can't claim that happens too often :D

I have a number of reasons that I wanted/needed to quit smoking. However, the most poignant reason I quit was as a result of watching my uncle succumb to lung cancer last summer. He was diagnosed about 5 years ago (shortly after my own father passed away; my uncle had become a surrogate father to me while I dealt with that grief. Dad passed away very suddenly. I watched my Uncle die, and I pray I don't have to go through anything like he did. I miss them both so terribly much.)

It still took a few more months (and finding ECF and better gear), but I finally put down the cancer sticks and haven't looked back.

I was at one time a professional singer,( nite club circuit) and I realized how much smoking was ruining my singing voice. I'm not currently in a band at the moment, but I plan on changing that.
Secondly, after 34 years of smoking I can breath easier.

There is still a place in the entertainment industry for a 51 year old country music singer.
realhippy is the name because I do live somewhat of a hippy lifestyle.

1) I wanted to stop spending $45 (which was cheap compared to what other places charged for a pack of smokes. $6.50+) every 8 to 9 days for a carton of something I burnt up and threw away.

2) The store, company, I bought my smokes at was going to stop carrying them some time in the near future. I said to myself "What am I going to do when that happens".

3) Actually I had tried to quit smoking several times in the last 3-4 years using some other products and simply couldn't. I always went back to cigarettes.

4) Coughing in the morning and wheezing at night when I'd lay down to go to sleep. So I guess you can group that into Health.

5) better wind, breathing, when I'd ride my bike.

You will see I'm a JERK, one dumb, Stupid, person. As the order I listed the reasons is the way they are.
It was more monetary than anything else and the easy of getting them at the lowest cost. Health didn't really come into the picture, back then.

Funny part is I have spent more on vaping gear since I stopped smoking than I would of IF I had continued to smoke.
